You are correct, and down south they call it a Chicken Hawk...not sure the correct name tho, but the Hawk family for sure.

Hi Stacey, it s Red Tail Hawk...... We have alot of white spruce trees surrounding our home, and of course the birds like to live in them, especially this time of the year. Makes a perfect feeding ground for the hawk, we have seen them swoop down or into the trres and grab a bird & take off.. Often we see them circling the fileds looking for mice & rabitts. About ten years back a friend in Florida had one swoop down and puck up a 2 pound toy poodle puppy......The puppy was found three miles down the road unharmed. I was always become concerned when I have my standard poodles pups outside, but the DNR told me they won't mess with the dogs (i'm not so certain).......They also let me know they are protected here in Michigan. Melanie, I love Florida! We have a couple of lots in Englewood just about 45 minutes S. of Sarasota.....Love it there. We were going to build but the insurance changes and climbing taxes has changes my hubby's mind. What area will you be living in? Connie

I love Florida toooo!! We are relocating to the Tampa area, and looking in the Dunedin and Hudson area which is right along the west coastline. We have 2 schoolage boys so I am looking into the schools. Yes the insurance and taxes are definitely a downer,,but no income tax so that is a good thing, plus no tax on groceries and let me tell you ,,,,I got some cornbread fed men!!!

Thanks for the info on the bird, I knew it was a Hawk just thinking Red Tail. Also, I was in Sarasota/Bradenton April 2005 with my family (before my father passed) and loved it. I want to live on Siesta Keys Beach. Thanks again for letting me share the pics of the bird. StaceyW
