My paperwork took a total of 4 weeks. I was denied after the 2nd week but then I did what they wanted me to and I was approved. I would keep calling the insurance company and bugging the heck out of them. Stacey B

Hey Stacey...thanks for the reply...if you don't mind me asking what is that you needed to do...I am pretty sure that I have everything that they are requesting...The problem is that I work for Blue Cross...so I can not really call & bug them because employees can not access other employees files it goes to a special unit???? Go figure!!! Believe me when I say I want to BUG somebody.

Are you going thru a Center of Excellence? You could always ask them to call and find out what's going on. My surgeons office was great. They stayed right on top of BCN and got answers from them. Stacey B

I was approved with BCN over a year later. They said I was missing a year of suprived visits with a dieticain and diet attempts with my PCP. I had 3 years worth and they still told me no. They told me I did not go enough times to have my weight checked. So after that for a year straight I went to see my PCP and dietician monthly. And they still told me no. They finally approved me after I sent them a copy of my diary. It was a food diary and my personal diary. Well you work the insurance company just know to be prepared. I needed a psych eval, blood work, EKG, chart notes, co-morbids, diet attempts, documentation of diet pills, medication log. BCN had a quick response time. They where Quick when they said no and Quick when they said yes.

Thanks for the info...I have had the Psych Eval, Blood work...then found out that I had H-Pylori which I had to take antibiotics for 2 weeks, sleep study, and the EDG...those are the only test that I needed. I did have a year of supervised diet attempts with my PCP. So I hope everything goes well...I AM SO ANXIOUS!!!! I think I am driving myself CRAZY...Oh Yeah I am going through CORI Weight Centers...and they are GREAT with getting back to me...& it may take awhile since we (BCBS/BCN) were closed a lot over the holidays...I will "Weight" patiently...Sincerely, Hoping to be a LOOSER...

Make sure to check how much they cover. I didn't know til the last minute that weight loss surgery was only covered 50%, but luckily i had a secondary insurance that paid the rest. If i hadn't , harper hospital wanted ten grand cash the day of surgery. It took me over a year to get approved, and finally i had an in person appeal and won. Don't hold your breath waiting for them, and don't be surprised if you're denied. Hopefully they've changed, but before , no matter what you got denied. Stacey is the only one i seen approved so easily. Use this time to get healthy. Load up on protein to make sure you heal quickly after surgery. Read profiles and research all you can. Hugs Linda
