I have a different 'view' on this subject, while although it is a lifestyle change, it has been the simpliest way for me to lose weight. Simply put, I am not a slave to eating like I once was. When I used to just diet,,ultimately I would fail and binge. Now that I have had wls, I really at 1 yr out cannot binge eat due to the fact, that if I don't get sick, I get sleepy, or its a bad case of toilettrots!! Now you can eat around this new lifestyle, graze on high caloric and bad carbs, but to me this has been the easiest way for me to lose 111lbs so far. Nor do I get upset when others think its the way out..because it is!!!! Lets see in 2 yrs if these people still are "losers". The %is against them. Besides, the way I look at it, most cancer patients opt to have chemo to fight their battle,,wls was my chemo in the battle against obesity....& hopefully I will ultimately win..but kudos to the people that did it without wls,,,I honestly could not achieve my results that way,,and I tried for 25yrs.

The first thing you need to realize is the WLS is a tool and not a cure. I know that I am only three weeks out for surgery and right now I really never feel hungry. I need to remember to eat. Yes I am starting to understand that I am no longer a slave to food and that it really is just something I need to do not want to do. But that is right now and if I fool myself and think that it will always be this way then I am sure that after the magical two year make that the weight will come right back and I would end up bigger then when I started. We all need to keep in mind the WLS is only a TOOL and NOT A CURE. It is up to us to WORK through the life style changes. So to say that it is the easy way out totally discredits all of the dedication you put into your lifestyle changes and that your efforts are useless. Meaning the with WLS the weight is just going to come off all by itself and that you did nothing to help that. I am sorry I still totally disagree with the statement made on the View as well as yours. :spin

Mike, I believe if you will re-read my post, you will see that we agree on the issue that it is a tool. I don't think any surgeon would do the surgery unless he fully understands you as a patient realizes the ramifications of this type of surgery. While you may disagree with my statement, understand it is a process, and there is no one size fits all surgery. Being upset about how others view it is to be intolerant of others who are really using this as a blanket statement. I really dont' think Joy meant to offend, but lets face it, any emails they will receive is what they are achieving....people are watching and reacting to that particular segment. Its called ratings,,,they want reactions, it pays them well to get people fired up.

I could get into an entire debate with you, but I will not. While I respect your opinion, I completely disagree.

No debate here, you are futher out in your surgery then I, and everyone reacts differently to threads, this is JMO>2 yrs from now I may have a whole different view on the subject. This is why I enjoy this site, you get different ideas and takes on each persons journey, and then you can make an informed decision based on your knowledge and how you as an individual responds!! Great post*grin*

First of all you have to look at the source. Anything Joy says I take with a grain of salt and the same with Rosie. I like the View alot but tolerate the two "big mouths" of the show. Joy is a witch no matter how you look at her. She is chubby and hates the fact that she is chubby and she hates people who can lose weight. My granny always said "You have to LOVE yourself before you can LOVE anyone else!" So with that said, let them say it's the easy way out but like I posted several post back. How can you tell some what its like to lose someone to death if you yourself have not experienced it. How can you tell someone that WLS is the easy way out if you yourself have not been in my shoes. My grannys other saying was "I might be fat but your ugly and I CAN lose weight!" You just gotta look over the source and like someone else posted, have them back on the show in two years and lets see what size pants they are wearing then. Take care!!!

it was the easiest way out for me, not the easy way, the easiest.. as a matter of fact it was the ONLY way out. I tried the other methods. many times. they were hard and they didn't work. WLS has worked so far. before i educated myself thoroughly about WLS i too thought it was "the easy way out" but a lot of research changed my opinion, and now of course, living it has changed my opinion. So i don't mind that others think what i once did. I don't blame them at all, i think it's to be expected. Sooooooo i figure if i care, i'll be patient and help share information with those who are interested. If they're not interested that's fine too. It's my life, and i am defined by ME, not by some old biddys on the view.

I don't know about anyone but me, but my surgery was the easy way out. And it was the only way out. It didn't feel real good but it forced me to lose weight, something I couldn't do any other way. In a year or two I will be on the same level as those who lose by will power alone. Meanwhile, I have taken the easy way out. It is embarrassing to admit that I was so out of control that it ever became an issue for me, but it is the easy way. And I believe that if most wls patients search their hearts, they know it too.

I think anyway someone loses weight and is able to maintain that is a winner in my book, as long as it was realistic and healthy. I did it all, unhealthy and healthy, and I wish I had that extra that people have that accompli**** I got so sick of looking in the mirrow and being disgusted about my love affair with food. Growing up in the south with parents that grew up sharecropping, you had no choice but to love food. And it was in abundance, and unfortunately I am an excellent cook when it comes to southern food. We just wait for an excuse to whip up something to show our "love". My love affair is still there,,,just regulated now...and hopefull forever!!
