I could not agree with you more. The world will still look at us "fat people" with a slighted even when we are doing something to help our self live a healthier life. I am currently 3 weeks post-op and this is way more challenging then I ever though it would be. Easy way out, she would not know the easy way out if it fell out of the sky and landed on her face and started to wiggle...
OMG Julie I saw it too and was ticked off ! I haven't even had my surgery yet and it drives me crazy when people think it's easy to just have the surgery. They seem to think that us "fat" people just do this on purpose, we have a disease, a problem. I think emailing them is a great idea, so i'm going to send mine too ! ~~Rona
When I tell people that I had the surgery, I am quick to say that (a) I tried everything else (b) that the decision to have this surgery was a hard one to make and (c) every day I have to watch myself to avoid any problems.
If anything, I do tell them that doing Weigh****chers is the best thing, and I had lost 40lbs. I would not recommend this surgery to anyone unless they have tried EVERYTHING else first....
Trust me I have tried everything, several times through several years of my life ! This is my last resort, my second chance at life for me and for my kids. I don't just go our promoting this surgery but I know that for me this is the best decision I could ever make and it has NOT been an easy decision, easy pre-op, nor will it be an easy surgery and post-op. I know what I am getting into thats why her statement upset me. But I also don't go around telling people "why" I am having the surgery. It's noones business or decision but mine and my husbands (who wasn't happy at first but educated himself and now understands). Thats why I think Joy should have done a little research of her own before making a statement like that. But thats just my opinion. ~~Rona
I didn'****ch but I certainly agree with you. Having WLS is far from the easy way out. Obviously, they don't do research on the topic before they speak/ask questions.
When you have WLS-you have to constantly watch what you eat, monitor your protein/water/food intakes. Constantly have labs drawn, be supervised by a nut for most of your post op life, and it is considered MAJOR surgery!
When you are dieting, you can quit for a day. Each that McDonalds crap, eat that cake, and ice cream and cookies and junk food, and then start back on your diet later. Not with WLS. This is permament (depending on what type surgery you have)....and I am certain that those women have no clue what GB is all about.
Good for you for sending them an email.
More people need to respond to programming like this to let them know that what they do is upsetting/irritating.
I hope someday we watch the show and she apologizes for saying "easy way out". how WRONG she is!

I e-mailed them too. The one thing I said after having surgery is that NO ONE better tell me I took the easy way out. I had a C-Section with my son and figured WLS would be easy. Boy was I wrong. I have never had so much pain in my life. I have never been such an emotional wreck in my life. I felt like I had been through the wringer and back. It took a good 6 weeks to get back to normal. All the changes we go through physicall and mentally really take a toll on our system. It just goes to show you that Joy is an uneducated bafoon who didn't even take the time to do her research.
