I had my surgery on December 13, 2006 and I feel like I am doing everything wrong! I am having such a hard time with the Protein shakes-they make me sick to my stomach! I don't know what the "crazy" feeling is in my stomach, so for lack of a better term I am calling it hunger. My friend who had the surgery said that she didn't feel hunger pains for 4-6 months after surgery??? I feel as if I should be losing more than what I am simply because I am barely taking anything in. I have lost 52.5 pounds combined between my liguid fast starting on November 28 and my surgery?!! For some reason I am feeling like I am going to be the only patient to ever fail bariatric surgery?? Please help! Paula

Everyone feels like they will fail. It's a new way of life for us and take a lot of practice to master it. What are you mixing your protein with? I didn't feel hungry when i was where you are at. Are you getting in your water? What are you eating? 52 pounds is a great loss, you should be proud. does your stomach hurt after you have dairy? You could be lactose intolerant, or maybe not eating enough. let me know what your doing and i can add from there. Hugs Linda

I think you look great Paula. I haven't had the surgery, yet, but from what I have read around the board that sounds normal. Keep your chin up, your on the losing side and i'm sure you'll get over this hump ! I am in the process but don't have a date yet for WLS and I think about what might happen if I fail, if I will be that ONE person. Those feelings are normal. Your doing just fine ! CONGRATS GIRL ! ~~Rona

Yer doing fine. Are you using milk in the shakes? If so you may be lactose intolerant. I was for about 6 months and then it went away. Try soy milk - 8th continent vanilla soy milk is pretty good in a shake. There is also land o lakes dairy ease milk. That crazy feeling may be your remnant stomach reacting to get rid of something (the milk) that isn't there. The nerves are still connected and your stomach can revolt against you. I got nauseated the other day after I wa**** in the head but I knew there was nothing in my stomach - there can't be. I hope that helps. kp

i felt just the way you do, i was CONVINCED i was gonna fail. I didn't. You won't either. You might try mixing protein drinks with water instead of milk. It makes them lighter and easier to drink and if you're lactose intolerant it will solve that problem as well. I did poorly till i found the Matrix protein drinks as they're much lighter and easier to drink. I also mixed one scoop with only 4 ounces of water and a few ice cubes. it made it easier to get the whole thing down. Go easy on your stomach. you're a newbie. right now do the best you can but allow yourself to heal. You can force yourself to get all your protein a little further down the road, for now just do the best you can. As long as your doing your best, there's no need to beat up on yourself or compare yourself to others. Be proud, be strong and give yourself time. btw, 52.5lbs is AWESOME. You're doing great.

I though I was the only one feeling this way. I am 3 weeks post-op and I lost 15lbs before my surgery and the 8 days following the surgery I was only able to keep down water and SF Popsicles. Because of this I lost an additional 20lbs. Since then I have had some trouble with the feelings in my belly, and eating when I am not hungry. I have only been able to lose an additional 10lbs in the last 2 week for a total of 45lbs. I feel that it should be moving faster than it is and I was concerned that I am doing something wrong. I am taking in about 550 Cal. a day, 50g of Protein. I have tried some different types of proteins and they all do not taste good but we must get it down. I mix mine with Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added) and it helps cover the taste, sometimes I use fat-free milk or water with a couple ice cubes. I think we just need to remain focused and the changes will come. I keep my eyes focused on Jesus and ask for His guidance and strength to keep moving forward. He will never leave us nor forsake us, He is awesome.... Mike :spin:
