Had WLS 11/27/06 thinking of changing jobs but insurance still has yet to pay for surgery

Hi all, I am thinking of changing jobs but am getting nervous due to insurance. I had my surgery 11/27/06 however, verified with my insurance that a check will not be cut until 1/19/07. I have a new job offer on the table that I really want but they want me to start asap. Could my insurance company actually reject payment even though my surgery was 11/27/06 & I was an active employee on that date?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Talk about major nerves on this. Not to mention I know if I switch jobs going forward my follow up will probably not be covered, yikes!

I'm not an insurance expert or anything but here's my two cents: You had already paid into your insurance, you were covered at the time - they should still pay for it no matter what. You could probably quit the day after a procedure and they would still pay because you had paid them already. The only problem might be if you are still on disability/leave with the old company - not sure what would happen then. Like I said, just my two cents. Good Luck on the new job. Don't let something like this stop you if it is an amazing opportunity and something you really want to do. sarah

Date of service is what matters. Leaving your job before payment would not impact the pending payment. I am a benefits administrator, so I am pretty qualified to answer this. Here is what I would be careful with: Make sure your next insurance covers WLS. I know that if you go to a plan like HAP and have complications, they will NOT pay. I will never take an HMO for that reason. Being so soon post op, this is something you should give some hard consideration and do some digging first.
