regarding carbs
hi, i haven't been on in awhile. i had my surgery on 8-21-06 i've lost 61lbs. and happy with that so far but i have added protein bars to my diet, are we suppose to count our carbs now? if so what should be the number of carbs in one? and the calories in a protein bar. i think it has slowed down my weight loss. and does carbs make you more hungry? thanks for your input. barb new email address is [email protected] i also don't know how to put in my new email address can anyone help me with that? thanks again barb
Hi Barb,
I have found that the higher my daily carb intake is the slower my weight loss is. Since I had the DS though I can't advise you specifically. I just thought I would let you know you aren't alone in the carb struggle..
As far as to do they make you more hungry? Well I found just the opposite. Good carbs seem to fill me up and I am able to go longer between my "grazings" when say I have a piece of pizza or some oatmeal. Again that is me and as someone one another WLS board says YMMV (your mileage may very.. lol)

I keep asking my NUT about carbs. She says as long as I stay under 30 grams of fat a day, the carbs will be in line. Your body does need carbs for energy but you need to eat the right carbs. I think you'll find that if you eat carbs from refined foods that you will get hungry faster. Oatmeal (yuck) and other complex carbohydrates are the best for you. As far as slowing weight down, this is a normal occurrence. While you may not be losing weight you are losing inches. Measure yourself from time to time and see the difference in your body that way. The pounds will eventually catch up to the inches lost. I've also found that I have to have at least 950 calories or my weight loss slows down dramatically. It's the days in a row where I get 750 or less that I have no movement of the scale. Your best bet is to call your nutritionist and see what they recommend. You have had a great weight loss so you must be doing something right.
