Post op pain

I had a RNY, open on december 5 2006....Almost a month now and am still experiencing post operative pain....Stinging and burning and pulling when I walk....Has anyone else experienced this a month out.? Thanks

Dear Mitzie, I recall having some minor stinging and just pulling when I had my open RNY July 19, 2005. Your body is still adjusting to this change, and if you are still on pain meds, remember to follow the instructions your doctor set. Usually every 4 hours. Try to remember this is a big adjustment, and while we all want no pain, some is inevitable. We all experience post op life differently, but I can tell you that I remember having minor issues for the first 6 months after my surgery. Keep your activity to a minimum, elevate your feet when sitting, and try ice packs on the area that stings. I am by no means offering medical advice nor am I a medical professional and cannot justify this statement, as to protect myself from oh.com rules, I would recommend that you speak to your WLS doctor about your pain, burning and stinging, but I did have some myself. Dear Stacey, Thank you so much for your reply. It is just good to know other people have experienced this. I have two friends that had the surgery by my Doctor and have experienced none of this. My doc was aware at my two week check-up that i was in pain. He thought it might be a large hematoma under the skin and I am to see him again this friday. I am a nurse and i know just enough to be damgerous to myself....LOL.....I'm just really scared of something wrong and another surgery....Thanks for your support...........................................Mitzie

Hi Mitzie - - yes I did have just that kind of pain which started about 3 weeks after my surgery. It was nasty and at one point it was so bad the surgeon's office sent me to the ER to make sure nothing bad was going on. It was just the "pain of healing" - - probably internal stitches pulling as they healed. It lasted about a week for me and then was magically gone. I hope yours doesn't last too long - - have you told your surgeon about this pain? Karen

Hi Karen, Thanks for your response....Mine has lasted over two weeks now...It's driving me nuts!! My Doctor did know I was having pain at my 2 weeks check-up...He thought it might be a large hematoma under the skin....I am to see him again this friday....Maybe I'll get some answers then....It's just nice to know other people have experienced this.....I think I'm just scared to death of another surgery.
