This too shall pass
Well, 4 weeks out and things are going pretty good....until today. Have had cramps for 2 days, not thinking much of them and WHAM!!!!! Doubled over with pain in my right flank. Then the dry heaves. Having had kidney stones before, I knew where I was headed. To the ER my husband and I go, not sure if I can even stay seated in the car for the 10 minute drive (which seem like an hour!!) They drew some blood, hooked me up to 1000 cc's of fluids in 1 hour and gave some IV dilaudid. After one hour, I was the proud Mama of a tiny kidney stone. I'd give birth any day over passing a kidney stone. Home in less than 3 hours thank goodness. CT scan and xray showed no siblings waiting to make an appearence. Couldn't even enjoy driving my new car today. Hubby even offered me his Tiger's cap so I wouldn't hurl all over the car. Left the hospital with a smile on my face and spent the afternoon sleeping off my dilaudid drunk. Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year.

Hi Karen,
I had 2 kidney stones a while back. The ER nurse said it's worse than having a child. Of course, me, unable to ever bear a child, doesn't know what that feels like but I tell you this, if it's less pain than a kidney stone, I'd take that any day. Having 2 kidney stones the size so small you wonder why it's so painful is bad enough for me.
I read an article and spoke to my RNY doc and they both agreed:
WLS patients who consume high levels of protein are more susseptible (sp?) to kidney stones than the regular individual. However, we are all different, and I also know that I cannot take Biotin in higher doses now, as the "warning label" indicates not to take if you have had kidney stones. There is some biotin in my multi vites but my RNY doc said not enough to harm me, and it's water soluble.
Glad to hear you made it home, and not in the hospital for the first of the NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep drinking lots of water, that is what I was told .......it helps keep things from causing agony!
and hugs
