Hello everyone.. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend..I wanted to ask a couple questions..I have not had any form of weight loss surgery yet for i dont see the dietician until Jan and the Weightloss Surgeon until middle of Jan..I had recently joined a gym and am going to try it on my own untili see the doctors and know which road they will want me to venture down..What i would like to know is besides excersizing is there anything wise that anyone can recommend that i start taking which might help in aiding in lossing weight???? Or any sort of suggestions about anything concerning weight loss..Since i would like to try losing some on my own while waiting to see the Doctors..

Hi Karen, First of all, I recommend looking into protein shakes. Try to find one you like without sugar and not a lot of fat and calories. You'll have to drink them after surgery so it's best to get used to them now. Also, try cutting down your portions and keeping track of what you eat. If you go to www.fitday.com, you can keep track of your food. Every surgeon is different, but I was put on a 900 calorie (with as many fruits and veggies as I wanted) a few weeks before surgery. It really was a shock to my system. Track your food and see what you're eating now....and see what changes you might need to make before surgery. Good Luck to you....it sounds like you have the right attitude going into this journey. Brenda

If you're not taking any multi-vitamins now...I would suggest starting on the OTC prenatal vitamins and calcium citrate+D. Just remember that you cant take these two together. The prenatals should get your levels in the normal to slightly higher range due to the greater percentage of nutrients in them compared to a regular multivitamin. And extra calcium...nothing bad about that at all...as women we all need to have extra in our diets to help keep our bones strong and help prevent osteoporosis.
