What does an ulcer feel like?
For the last couple of days I've been getting this pain in the middle of my chest right after I start eating. I see my doctor tomorrow. The pain's not bad enough for an ER visit but I was wondering if it might be an ulcer due to the Celebrex I take for arthritis. It doesn't feel like heartburn. Warm water, soup and tea seem to help. Any ideas?
No, my gall bladder was taken out during my WLS. My pain is hard to describe. It feels like a huge weight sitting on the middle of my chest that radiates to my back. Sometimes I feel hunger-like pains even right after I've already eaten. I've started drinking Maalox and that helps a little. I see the Dr. tomorrow.
Kim,
When was your WLS? For about 2 weeks after my Lap-RNY, I had some significant stomach pain after eating. I called my surgeon and he said it was spasm of the stoma..the tube that empties the pouch after eating. He said it was normal and to stick to the plan with food texture pregression. Small, frequent amounts. It worked for me, but I had also not been taking my Prilosec for acid because they were so big. Once I was able to take those, the pain went away. Good Luck.

Kim,
How did your appt go? I thought I'd respond since I just got home from the hospital after vomitting a large amount of blood and almost losing consciousness. Turns out, it was an ulcer. I'll be 2 weeks post op tomorrow. When I started on my full liquids, I felt the same pain you were talking about and the full liquids didn't seem to sit well...as long as I didn't consume anything I was fine. Then, day after Christmas I got a horrendous pain in my chest...sort of felt like I was going to throw up, and then I did, all blood. So, I hope if it is an ulcer you have, that they catch it before all the same nastiness happens to you. I've been put on 2 acid blockers to treat and back on clear liquids for now.
I hope everything worked out fine and that you're feeling better soon.
