BIG BOYS RESTURANTS ARE OFF MY LIST....
I went out of town today and we decided being as a new big boy had opened last week there it would a nice place to go. Ive always liked big boys food and they prices were reasonable.
the food was fine........
but the customer service and the customer care..........
I simply asked when we were being seated if they had a kids menu... the waitrewss look right at me and said, "do you HAVE a kid with you "?
I didnt, and I told her I was asking because I had had bariatric surgery and can only eat small amounts of food. She then said" we were told that we are never to give a kids menu to anyone but a kid"
my mom then chimed ina nd said " SHE HAS a card from her dr to prove this", and we were basically told.....tough banaanas.......
the next thing we asked was about a senior citizens menu, as my mom isnt a big eater either..... NOPE...... they dont provide that either...
if we would ahve had time to find another place to eat, Id have walked out, but we were limited on time..
next I am going to search out big biys web site and write a complaint.....
what ever happened to meeting the customers needs ??

Hi,
I noticed you were from Escanaba. Was it the Big Boy in Marquette? I was reading there newspaper when I was up there last weekend and said it was new in town. Glad we didn't go there.
I did have a good experience at the Dog Patch in Munising. We arrived on a bus with around 40 people and they had set up a buffet for all of us which was 9.00 per person. Well, I don't eat that much food so sure didn't want to spend that much. At first the waitress said no your reservations are for the buffet only. When she came back I explained to her about gastric bypass. She said wow you were a big lady at one time. You look so natural I would never believe it. I ended up ordering a bowl of chili and everything was fine.
I would call the franchise owner of the Big Boy. They should teach their management to be more accomodating. Lynn
GREAT TIP:
I DONT EAT AT BIG BOY EITHER FOR THAT REASON BUT..............
IHOP WILL CATER TO BARIATRIC PATIENTS, WITH SMALLER PORTIONS ON THEIR MENU.
Remember, though, they DO NOT have to offer smaller portions to us because we had surgery. That is an elective thing we chose to do, and there are few restaurants out there that will offer us smaller portions.
TIP: when going out to eat, split a meal with someone. Call ahead and ask the manager (get a name!) if they would honor a card from someone who had Bariatric surgery and cannot eat regular sized portions. Be sure to tell your waitress this when she stops by the FIRST time.
TIP: Leftovers make great meals for later. I rarely spilt a meal unless it's a costly one, and then I get two - three meals from what I order.
Customers who have bariatric surgery are not special. Trust me, the industry does not cater to our smaller sized meals. So be prepared now to deal with this the rest of your life. It is simple. Ask ahead of time, and if not, plan to take home leftovers, and the childrens menu often offers more fried and greasy things rather than nutritious items, so it probably wouldn't hurt to order a regular meal, and ask for a to go container right at the start, and place what you dont want to eat in there when the food comes.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but it's something we all have faced.
Hopefully my tips will help!

Before writing them off, you should speak to the manager and calmly explain your situation. I would think they would make excecptions.
Also realize that perhaps you were the first one to come into this establishment with this situation. People are automatically programed on what to say.
I had a similar problem with a sports bar & grill that I frequent once a week from September - May. After a few times of complaining, I am now allowed to order off the kids menu, if I choose.
Good luck to you!
Ditto what Stacey W said. Whenever we go out to eat I order a regular sized meal and ask for them to bring a box with it. I don't even use the plate the meal comes on. I get a smaller plate or use the bread plate as my dinner plate. Leftovers are wonderful. It's hard trying to cook a small meal for myself and then another meal for the rest of the family.

most of the time I DO order regular meals and take home leftovers, but when Im out of town and have no way to keep them from spoiling over many hours, I cant stand to waste things.
YES..... this was the big boy in Marquette.
I dont EXPECT any "special" treatment, but it isnt huirting them to sell a mael off the kid menu to me rather than a kid. I would think they'd rather allow it and keep oyur business, the rest of your party is ordering normally, now they loose all my family s ****omers.. and I wasnt asking for free meal, you'd think so tho by the way they reacted.
Our local Big Boy has been off my list for a long time too, mainly for the poor customer service but also because they won't cut a deal on their breakfast buffet. It's definitely their prerogative not to...but it's also my prerogative to eat somewhere else...which I will gladly do. There are many other restaurants that can accomodate....

There is not one healthy menu item on the kids menu. If I had kids, I would not allow them to eat from it. Fried chikcen tenders, mac and cheese, hot dogs, hamburgers....blah. You would have been better ordering a nice hot bowl of cabbage soup and a side salad.
Learning what to order is key to enjoying restaurant dininig. I never order anything that will not reheat well. I always getting dressing or condiments on the side of everything.
Big Boy is overpriced for their food anyhow. It is not fresh for what they charge. They have very little that is healthy. I will stop in the little mom and pop places and have better luck.
