MMPC Orientation

My journey towards WLS, had me in Grand Rapids, listening to MMPC orientation. This was my second orientation in the past couple weeks. Dr. Kemmeter was the one to do todays orientation, I found him very knowledgeable, caring, funny, and most importantly willing to help us do the right thing. The process started with standing in line to get registered, and show proof of Insurance. There was a mix up with the guy doing my registration, and the insurance I will have this coming January. However, that was no big deal, we eventually got it worked out. The information was very informative. I thought I had a lot of knowledge about WLS, but he spoke about the DS, and the sleeve. I found the sleeve very curious, and I will spend the next few days reading about the surgery since it is relativly new. At this point, I am leaning towards MMPC, but I still have one more orientation to attend this coming Thursday with Dr. Schram. Is attending this many orientations a bit too much? Anyone else had the sleeve surgery? C

Dr K did my surgery and is a great Dr. I think that what he says about the DS is that is has aspects of the Vertical Sleeve proceedure, because I am pretty sure he does only band, rny and DS proceedures. The staff and the program at MMPC is top notch. They give you great tools for getting through the pre op and post op. Get all the imformation you can from all of the different clinics and definately confirm the information you got about the sleeve. Good luck. Heather

As of the meeting yesterday, he also does the Vertical sleeve. When actually I think he said he has done like 5 vertical sleeves. I like the idea of the vertical sleeve only having one incision, instead of one incision line and the reconnecting of the bowel. It just seems the fewer things you cut or sew the fewer complications that coould arise. I will spend the day at work reading about the vertical sleeve

In addition to attending MMPC's orientation, I have also sat through Dr. Sabers orientation. MMPC's orientation was more just about the surgery, where as Dr. Sabers included the dietician, billing, etc. However, the surgery info was pretty similar, MMPC's was probably a bit more in depth.

Jenny, The next orientation I will be attending is Dr. Schram from Barix. I'm very interested to see how they compare to the other two.

HI CURT...I HAD DR FOOTE DO MY SURGERY AT MMPC. IF IT WASN'T FOR HIM DOING MY SURGERY I AM NOT SURE WHERE I WOULD BE TODAY!!! I HAD A HUGE CHUNK OF FAT UP IN MY CHEST THAT WAS 10 CM X 6 CM...ABOUT THE SIZE OF A GRAPEFRUIT OR SO!!!!! MY STOMACH WAS ALSO UP IN MY CHEST AREA...HE DID A WONDERFUL SURGERY ON ME AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. I AM NOW 8 WEEKS OUT AND AM DOWN 39 POUNDS. MMPC HAS A DIFFERENT SET OF RULES THAN OTHER PLACES FOR BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY....I THANK GOD EVERY DAY FOR DR FOOTE AND MMPC!!!!! (I HAD THE LAP RNY) ALSO AT MMPC THEY ARE ALSO VERY CARING TOWARDS THE OBESE PATIENT!!! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY TO A NEW YOU!!! HUGS JUDY

Dr. Foote at MMPC also did my surgery. I am very happy with his work. Dr. Kemmeter did the orientation and I liked him a lot but when it came push to shove, Dr. Foote had just a little more experience. Dr. Kemmeter did take care of me in the hospital and I was really impressed. I don't think you can go wrong with MMPC, they make sure you know everything about what's going to happen and if you forget, there's the notebook that has a lot of answers in it. I'm now 6 months out and I've lost 87 lbs since surgery for a total of 95 lbs from my heaviest. I had the lap RNY. 6 very small (1 - 2") incisions.
