Jump on the Florida board, somebody will give a hand, I hope. I was in that area in March and was surprised at the prices of property and the traffic congestion. Staying inland is less expensive and more protected from big storm damage. I have friends in the Zephyrhills area and they are close enough to Tampa for a ball game but far enough to afford their homes. Best of luck!

I lived in Florida for 18 years. Jay just moved up here from there last year. Bradenton was nice back then as I remember... kp

Yay! That's awesome! Congratulations! One tip, if you're thinking about purchasing a home. I work for an insurance company, and I can tell you that most property insurance rates are THROUGH THE ROOF to have wind/hail coverage. A lot of companies aren't even offering wind coverage right now. The x-wind/hail rates are pretty competitive though, so if you're willing to take x-wind coverage, that will probably be your best bet.

i recommend insurance, storm shutters, and generators. my last two years there i wa**** with four hurricanes. other than the hurricanes, the stifling heat, the incredible humidity and the billions of a-hole tourists... it's a great place to live. I LOVE MICHIGAN and the people here are so nice. I would never move back to Florida. Of course, i'm a very different variety than most people. Most of my friends in Florida love it there and would never move. I hope you love it too. I can tell you that i like Tampa much better than where i'm from (the Palm Beach area). The beaches there aren't as nice but the landscape and the people are much nicer. Good luck to you. but seriously, get those storm shutters. I've been through storms without them and it was scary. with them you feel much safer.
