SURGERY DATE CHANGED!!!!
I am so upset right now. The CORI center called me and cancelled my surgery date. They want to reschedule for the 21st. This upsets me because I was all set and had everything planned out. Also I am losing my faith in the CORI center in general. Who in the hell reschedules major surgeries the week before?? This wasn't like it was a Dr.'s appointment. I am contemplating cancelling everything and going with another center. And I don't want to seem like just because I am in a hurry to get this done that I would go with just anybody. But this just seems extremely unprofessional to me. I also didn't want to have surgery this close to Christmas. I was going to have surgery on the 18th, recover a bit at home and then travel to Cleveland for the holidays. Now it looks like I will be traveling home straight from the hospital. I'm having trouble deciding what I should do. I would really llike to have this surgery soon, before I start school in the fall. But if it means waiting a few years after I am done with graduate school (My insurance during full time grad school will not cover surgery) maybe I will just have to do that.
I can see how this is upsetting but, I wouldnt stop everything. Just think of how far you have come and have a date. There are alot of people out there with out a date. I am scheduled for surgery on thursday at harper with the cori center. Just hang in there and go with the new date, did they give you a reason why your date was changed? Is there a sooner date then that you can have? also what doctor are you scheduled with?
I wouldn't put it off. You are not the 1st person to say they had their surgery cancelled. There was one lady who posted that they cancelled her surgery the day before. It's just nuts! Personally I didn't like or trust the Cori Center and I had my surgery done at St Mary Mercy in Livonia. They are wonderful and may be able to get you started. They are absolutely wonderful. I had my surgery August 28th, 2006 and I have lost 72 pounds so far. It was so worth it. Best Wishes and Happy Holidays!

Sorry to hear that your date got changed. If you really want this though, I would not cancel. Maybe there was something unavoidable that came up for the doctor and they cannot perform surgery that day. I would rather have my date changed than have my doctor not at peak performance because of another obligation. I am sure all will go fine and you will be home for Christmas. Much luck to you.

{{Tiarra}} I'm sorry this happened to you. I know firsthand how disheartening and hard it is to go through this while fighting your journey for health. I cant say whether you should cancel or go ahead with the new surgery date, only you can answer that in your heart, but as with all things...this may be a blessing in disguise. This may just be another stepping stone on your life's journey.
Check out my profile and you will see what I mean by this. While I hated every minute of the pain and angst it caused me, I am sooo thankfull that I wasnt able to get surgery earlier. The wait and the BS I went through made me much more stronger emotionally & almost completely prepared to handle what my surgery brought me.
All I can say is never settle for a doctor, facility, or procedure that you know is not right for you just to get to the losing side. You are worth more than that. Seek out the best and it will happen.

Tiarra, I sure know it is disapointing to have things changed on you, but I also would not put it off either, I would definitely ask why it was changed and also tell them you would like to be first if there is a cancelation from someone else, as for who cancels surgeries the week before lots of people!!!! Maybe the DR has a big party the night before, I would want my surgeon fresh how about you!! I feel it is only acceptable if there is an emergency or something for the Dr like sick family out of town ETC. otherwise we all can tell somebody or something bumped us, ASK what it was, and call the DR personally if you don't like the answer, he or they may take note that you are not taking crap if you tell them thay may lose thousands from your surgey if you go elsewhere. same token things often happen for a reason, best wishes and get it done asap, Marcia

I agree, that is TOTALLY unprofessional. I would get a reason, to see if it could happen again.
I had my surgery done at U of M. If you want more info let me know. Also, you could still go to Cleveland and recover. I had RNY and could have traveled a little and visited family if I was allowed to rest when I needed to.
Best of luck to you!
