OT: Horse shopping.....
I visited one of my favorite websites yesterday, and today.
www.dreamhorse.com
I put in my search criteria and have located about 7 horses I want to go see. Keep in mind I have NO, NONE, NO intention to buy any horse due to the fact I have "NO" where to board it right now. Plus, I can't ride until May 2007.
However, I thought I would let you know that this is a real step for me, to actually go looking....online or wherever. It means that someday, the right horse will come to me, and I will own a horse. Just not now.
But, it is educational to search, learn what to look for, go look at the horse, and it is much like buying a car - you have to try before you buy.....I see several horses that are about the right size, but the temperment and how they ride will be determined by my good friend, since I cannot ride.
Plus, in a year from when I can ride again, where will I be in lessons?
What kind of horse will suit me best then?
That's when the SERIOUS SEARCH will begin. For now, I'm browsing like going to Tiffany's .....lol......
had to share....thanks for letting me!

I remember shopping for my first horse ......enjoy the total experence and make sure you have someone who knows horses and that you trust with you!!! There are alot of shifty shady people in that world they don't alway care that the horse and rider match be aware that druging of horses is done if seller wants to get rid of a problem!! VET CHECK IS A MUST!!! especially if your a first time buyer and dropping a good amount of cash. I have bought and sold many I welcome repeat visits to make sure my horses have good homes I also recomend frist time buyers to look into leasing so they know what there getting into Horses are wonderful but they are a lifestyle. I say these thing from my own past experences.Have fun and enjoy the ride of shoping for your dream!!! Next question I have not had sugery yet but hope to in next 3 months how long before you can ride? Is this why you can't? GOOD LUCK!!!!
I had my abdominoplasty October 27th 2006 @ Barix in Ypsi by Dr. Vincent DiNick, MD, DMD. I have been asked not to ride until 6 months post op, which is end of April 2007. I have no desire to ride until then since the delicate work on my surgeon has yet to heal completely, and I also do not wish to put my body in any jeopardy.
This is a first time buy of a horse for me as an adult, and I have a true skilled equestrian horse expert going with me and my trainer said she would come along also if I found the perfect horse. There are 3 vets available on the farm also to check out the horse.
However, again I am not buying at this time, just look-see as I cannot board or ride right now.
I'm just attempting to educate myself on what to look for, how far to go, what the costs to move the horse will be, (my trainer said she'd do it) and overall what the adventure is going to be like when the time is right to search aggressively.
Thanks for the helpful information!!!
