I'm five weeks out now. I'm having lots of trouble getting protein in because everything tastes so awful. I've always loved shrimp. Tried it today, and it tasted terrible. Can't find any protein drinks that I can stomach. The ones I was drinking before surgery now taste like paste. I loved water before surgery, now it tastes like soap. I can just barely tolerate Fruit2o. The unflavored protein powder definitely has a taste to me, and it's not good. I try mixing it in SF pudding. I was doing good on Wendy's chili, but today it quickly About all I can get down is peanut butter because it's the only thing that tastes good. Anyone have any suggestions? When does this stage end??? Marie

I drink the Syntrax Nectar Protein - they have it at the Vitamin Shoppe or you could order it on line. It mixes with water, so you get both water and protein in. It has 23 grams of protein per scoop.

We run in cycles. What works today may not tomorrow. Have you tried Beneprotein? You can mix it up in pudding and I don't taste it. How about Isopure? How about Keto Juice? Cheese and cauliflower mash? Deli meats sliced real thin??? Head on applied directly to the forehead,,,, Sorry,,,,it was on the tube as I typed. BB

Protein is not an option, it's a MUST!! Go to bariatriceating.com and order the samples. That's how i found one that i truely liked. cottage cheese , string cheese, tuna are all good proteins, but remember you don't absorb all that you eat. Hugs Linda

Hi Marie, I'm sorry you're having problems with the taste of the protein. when I was pre-op I tried several different brands and flavors of protein to find some I liked. Post-op my tastes changed And I could barely choke the stuff down. I came to realize that it didn't matter if I liked the way it tasted or not. We have to have the protein. You could try ordering the sample pack from bariatriceating.com maybe there's something in there you can tolerate. I mix equal amounts of carb master yogurt (kroger), and FF cottage together. It' not bad and will help with your protein. Have you tried the nectar line of protein? I add 1 chystal light to go pk to it. Keep trying until you find something you can tolerate. Have you tried making fruit smoothies with unflavored protein? the hot chocolate/coffee recipe I posted is really good and hides the flavor of the protein. Have you tried the protein bars? some are good ome are no****ch for the sugar in them. Have you tried isopure? I didn't care for it post op but liked it pre-op. if you use isopure to make S F Jello it works pretty well Tastes ok too. In the mean time keep trying to make yourself to get in the protein. You will get used to the taste and may even start to like it. Best wishes to you. God bless, Annette Ps one more thing that may work for you, Take a pack of sf ff instant jello mix it with 2 scoops of designers whey chocolate protein powder, and 1 1/2 cups FF skim milk. mix well fold in 1 to 2 cups of chccolate flavored cool whip. enjoy.

Marie, I have posted this before, so many may be sick of hearing it...but it's new to you, right? I am the world's pickiest eater. There are only about 10 foods that I like the taste of. So, protein powder was a no go for me after surgery. I really regret that. I lost a ton of hair and didn't feel great. Then I realized that I was just not ever going to like the taste of protein juice, bars, shakes, coffee, etc. So here is what I do....mix AnyWhey powder (from the Vitamin Shoppe) twice a day with about 2 Tablespoons of Dannon Light and Fit smoothie. Then I chug it down with my nose plugged. Seriously. I take it like I take my vitamins. I get my additional protein from the food I eat. You might want to try it if you can't find a suppliment that you enjoy. Good luck, and whatever you do, don't skip the protein. You really do need it. Brenda

I too am picky. I despised (notice past tense) powder protein drinks. The flavored ones I still do. They make me . I started using GNC's "Nature's Best" clear isolate whey protein in GLASS BOTTLES, they run about 3.49 a bottle, 20 ounces has 40 gms protein and it is clear, and there are about 5-7 flavors. I have icy orange now that I use as backup. What I am into now, is ANY WHEY-unflavored protein that you can get at : GNC OR BARIX CLINIC (CHEAPER) and in a larger cannister for 30 dollars for 60 servings. I mix it in my coffee, tea, oatmeal and even peanut butter. (have to add a teeny bit of oil to peanut butter) but I cannot taste it and I keep track of what I do use. I put close to 2 scoops in my coffee, and that's nearly 30 grams to jump start my day. Then I do 1 bottle of Isopure, which is 40 grams, and I split that bottle into two parts because our bodies can't ingest more than 30 gms protein per sitting. after I eat, I'm sure Ive gotten in at least 70-90 gms protein per day. Hope this helps!! Also a high protein idea is cheese, and yogurt with protein in it, cottage cheese, and read labels. I shoot for high protein low carb stuff right off the bat, and watch the sugar content too. Stacey W

Marie: As I've heard others say... think of it as medicine, not a treat. But then again, that's easier said then done, I'm sure. Even though I'm pre-op, I've been experimenting with some protein drinks. Here's my favorite: 1 scoop vanilla flavored protein (the Wal-Mart stuff is fine for me so far) 1/2 banana (or one that's super small) 3-4 frozen strawberries ice cubes 1/4c to 1/2c SF Tang (actually the Wal-Mart brand of Sunrise Orange Drink) Blend it all together in a blender until its smooth. It's so yummy, tastes like ice cream. I've substitued the fruit for a variety of other things. Pears and blueberries mixed taste good and have much less carb than the banana. I've tried the canned pumpkin with milk, vanilla powder, nutmeg and splenda - not bad. Good luck! Pam

Ooo... I also meant to mention another concoxtion I've tried. Vanilla protein powder Ice cubes Crystal Light (grape is my favorite so far) It's easy and really yummy! I'm still trying to find a good receipe for the chocolate powder. Nothing I've tried seems to taste very good with that stuff. If I come up with anything brilliant, I'll pass it along. Pam
