OT - Health related
I've stepped off the WLS train for a second and started a new crusade.
One of my friends has cancer. It's a particularly aggressive and nasty cancer called inflammatory breast cancer. She's been going through chemotherapy and has lost most of her hair. To support her I shaved my head. I thought if she has to be bald I'll be bald with her.
Anyway, people ask me if I lost a bet. I tell them why and when I mention the type of cancer they look confused. I would say that a vast majority have never heard of it so now I go right into telling them.
Lisa noticed the "rash" 4 days after her breast exam. It was biopsied 5 days later. She looks to have caught it in time and has a very good chance of surviving.
The deal is that it looks like a rash or a bug bite and it goes weeks even months being misdiagnosed. She took quick action and her Dr. is being aggressive in her treatment.

Ladies, please be aware of any changes listed in the symptoms area of the site and WLS men talk to your wives/girlfriends and daughters.
Now go take a vitamin and drink a glass of water.

Dear KP,
Positive vibes to you and your friend. I have a history with breast cancer, myself having two lumps-turned out benign, having lost 2 friends to the nasty disease, and a friend whose mom just found out she only has to have radiation.
I support breast cancer awareness so much so, that when my Mom and I went to Midland recently (pre op) and shopped at Elder Bermanns, I bought a $60.00 pair of pink "breast awareness" pajamas with the pink ribbon on them. They were on sale for $42.00 and well worth every cent.
I hope that others too support this awareness and research and do what is possible to prevent and help those with the disease, and please, please, get yourself checked out as often as medically necessary and even be more aggressive.
I plea to men and women everywhere to take this message to heart.
I had cancer previously three times, and won the battle, so I do know first hand how SCARY this really is.
Hugs to you and your friend KP.
We are there for you and her.

It is great that you are bringing awareness to this type of breast cancer. I just heard of it myself for the first time two months ago. It was related to my work. Several co-workers and two Dr's sat and discussed this. It is easily treated as another problem at first because it is not "typical" in what the Dr's themselves expect for breast cancer. This is unfortunate because time is important because of the aggresiveness of this cancer.
I am glad your friend has a Dr who headed in the right direction with treatment so swiftly. Many positve vibes to her.

Years ago, I knew that my head would be shaved when I had my neurosurgery. I asked b4 the surgery how much hair I would lose - I just wanted to be prepared....I was lucky - they flipped my hair up and only shaved the area they needed to operate on.
Thank you for the heads up. I INSISTED at age 37 that they do a base-line mamogram on me as my maternal aunt had breast cancer and a double mastectomy. She was in a car accident this week and was so sore that she couldn't wear her prosthesis!! Talk about being flat!!
I have been faithful since the age of 40 to have an annual mamogram. My mom, on the other hand has only had one and complained that it hurt and has not had one since!! What gets me is that it was my mom's sister!!
Ladies - it you have had WLS, please tell the technician that you had surgery. I told them I went from a 48 DD to a 38 C and did not want to have a bad reading when they compared my old mamogram to the current one.
