Hey there family.. i know for a fact that I'll need FINANCIAL /support, with regards to getting a hotel room to stay in for at least 5-6 days after my surgery... I'm currently on welfare and I'll be going to Detroit to have my sugery done when I get my approval letter. I havn't been to detroit since I was like 13yrs old with my mother. LOL.. so I don't even know what hotels are around Henery Ford Hospital. I don't have ANY support from family members at all with regards to this surgery and it's already gonna be a task to find a way to get to get to Detroit for my surgery date and my consultations. i was gonna look on the internet and look at some churches and see if I could e-mail 'em to see if they could lend a helping hand, OH man this is soo embarassing!!!! Anyone have any bright Ideas?

Man, I wish i could help you out. I think as of right now with no other options at the moment i would call churches and such, or maybe even someone lives in the detroit area and would take you in for a few days while you begin your recovery process. At any rate, I wish you the best of luck in sorting out these issues and just think of how miniscule they will be when you are on the losers bench! I'll keep you in my prayers

I am going to ask a personal question but if you don't have a job and are on assistance how do get online? Do you use the libarary? Is there anyone you can do some work for to earn enough money to pay for a motel room? Since you get online surf the area for motels that are less expensive and then figure out how much you will need to earn while you are waiting for the approval letter. Set goals for yourself, and do it. God helps those who help themselves and perhaps this is just what you need to do to prove to the people in your family this is something you want for yourself and prove to them you can do it. If there is a WILL there is a WAY. Good luck and I have faith that you can do this to help YOU.

If you are using CORI, Harper has housing on the grounds next to the hospital. Maybe you can work something out there? kp

That was my thought as well...Check with your surgery office and they may have hospitality house or something set up with the local hotels at very discounted prices. If you are going thru Dr. Carlin/Dr. Genaw at HFH, I believe this was an option for me. I just went home after surgery though, after a three day stay. I traveled three hours north. I had a ride home though (hubby). I had my sister with me for a couple of days afterward, but really didn't "need" her to get along. It was nice for reassurance, but technically I didn't really need help. I did well, granted I did have it done lap (RNY), much less invasive than open procedure. What type are you having? Any reason you can't go home?? Maybe a friend could pick you up, and then check in on you periodically? Just a thought. Best of luck to you! Theresa

Henry Ford does have a hospitality house on campus. Henry Ford is good about scheduling your pre-op stuff so that you may be able to everything in one day. This journey is not easy, it is not suppose to be, but if it is meant to happen, it will. Nothing is impossible. My suggestion is to get your family on board for support. You will need them for the ENTIRE journey, not just the trip to Detroit.

Hi Beep creep, Please try not to be embarrassed by your situation. Sometimes people need a little extra help to get through. Before my surgery I wasn't able to work. Life has changed much over the last year. It will get better for you too: ) Call Wanda. I don't think she is in on Monday's but someone will be able to help you. Henry Ford has apartments right behind the hospital. They're pretty nice and very affordable. She may even be able to help you further with the cost ~so call her. Who is your surgeon? I had Dr. Carlin. He is the best ever. Both Dr. Carlin and Dr. Genaw are very skilled and personable surgeons. You have come to the right place for your surgery. Do you go to the support group meting at the C.A.M.? You should join the on-line support group. We are very close and do what we can to help each other. Have more questions Send me an e-mail. I'm more than happy to help. When is your date? Hope to hear from you soon. Take care. God bless you, Annette P.S. Whats your name? Would you like a visitor during your hospital stay? Just something I like to do, If you want a visitor.
