At about 2 1/2 years after surgery I developed an "internal hernia". ( I've had an incisional hernia too about 1 yr after surgery but they are very different.) My internal hernia occured when my small intestine passed through a space that was too small (often due to excess scarring and adhesions from multiple surgeries) and caused the intestine to become partially obstructed. I'm not sure if this is the same thing as your fiance' has or not. An internal hernia is VERY painful. My surgeon had two options, she could either make the opening larger for the intestine to pass through by removing the scar tissue otherwise she would have to re-route part of the intestine. Luckily she enlarged the space and was able to do it Lap. 1 night in the hospital and 2 weeks off work and I was as good as new. Best wishes to you both.
