Hi Rhonda, I take the same thing, I had surgery last Thursday, my doc kept me on them, so it must be ok. Cynthia

I started taking regular Wellbutrin right after my surgery, but since I only take it for seasonal depression (October through March), I was able to go back to taking Wellbutrin XL the following fall when I started back on the medication. It may be that I am suffering from other depressive problems at this time but it sure hasn't kicked in so far this fall after being on for two weeks. Jill

The Welbutrin XL is timed released and I thought that timed released medications don't work well for us. I used the regular Wellbutrin and take 75mg four times a day.

In my support group we just met with a pharmacist who said that the extended release kind of meds were not a good choice for us because they go thru before we get the full effect of the medicine. A better choice is the non-XL kind. Check with your surgeon to be sure, because it seems that a lot of doctors just don't understand about the malabsorption thing. Bekki
