Insurance Scares

My surgery date is schuled for December; however, the doctors office keeps telling me that if my insurance declines my claim I'm stuck with the bill. Does anyone else have Blue Choice-Michigan?

I have Blue Care Network but I would suggest calling your insurance company and finding out what their requirements are. You may also be able to get something in writing stating you are pre-approved. I know my insurance provided me and my surgeons office with an approval letter. You don't want to get stuck with the bill. My Lap RNY was about $20,000 and I would have never been able to pay that. My insurance wants 12 consecutive months worth of visits before they would approve the surgery; however, after they have it there is still a chance my claim could be denied and I'm stuck with the bill. Has any one heard of that?

Again, I suggest contacting the insurance company. You don't want to get stuck with the bill. Ask to speak to a supervisor and find out the specifics. Get something in writing and make sure you take good notes. Get names and extension numbers if you can. Stacey B
