Sherry,
My surgery is next week... . I started my research in March/April... Went to various seminars during May and June..... and my first consult in June, then slowly started to process. It all depends on your insurance and the appointments you need and your medical documentation as too how long it all takes. Some people move forward very quickly, others take over a year. You have to check with your insurnace and with the doctor's office you are going through.
Best of luck to you on your journey.

I contacted my Surgeons office at the end of May and had my surgery August 28th. I didn't have to buy any of their drinks. I was just required to do a 1000 calorie diet starting 8 days before surgery and a liquid diet the day before surgery. Not sure if it's quicker at some places but i think it would depend on the amount of surgeons at the center, the amount of patients and the rate at which the insurance company does their approvals.

I went to my first consult at Hurley in April 05. I had surgery in August 05. It was a fairly quick process, for me. I have MCARE insurance and went through Hurley Bariatric. However, I already had proof of a medically supervised diet, which was required by my insurance. I actually had about 3 years of medically supervised diet. Anyway, as others have said, it depends on many different things. Good luck in your process!!
Every case and everyone is different. Mine took 1 week shy of a year, but during the time I had two denials, and when I was approved, there was a two month wait for the consultation! My dad was scared about me taking a trip two weeks after surgery, so I waited until after we got back to have it done.
I am going to the Barix Clinic in Holland MI. I had a seminar/consultation with Dr. Schram at the end of 6-06. I didn't have my surgery until 10-23 which was scheduled on that date by my request. I believe that by the time I got my stress test, psych eval and letter from my primary (had to have it rewritten a time or two and each time took about 2 weeks to get it from my primary) the surgery could have been scheduled in September. However, I had a Las Vegas trip planned for my daughter's wedding on 10/14th and wanted to be sure I could travel which is why I scheduled it for after her wedding. The surgery was in Ypsilanti and it is true that Dr. Schram did not require that I do a pre-surgery diet which I was sooo happy as I'm sure it would be that much harder for me to continue on the full liquids for the first 20 days after surgery. Good luck on endeavors!.
It depends on your insurance. I have HAP and it has taken me 2 appeals and a grievance and ten months to get where I am now. I am still waiting for a final approval from HAP after them telling me I needed a psych eval passing first, and then they would approve it. I have been waiting for two months for the psych eval results to be sent to HAP. I already know I passed, they told me that, but sometimes you have to get on the ins. co. butt and get them in gear. I should have an answer this week they say. Best of luck!!!!
