Back pain

I'm having lots of back pain now, since surgery two weeks ago. Having a hard time finding a comfortable position in a chair because they all seem to push on that area. Actually, it's the only reason I take pain meds for. Wearing the binder doesn't seem to make any difference. I didn't have this kind of pain before surgery. Anyone else have this? Marie

Marie I too had back pain for about 4 weeks after surgery. It was a dull pain and as I changed position it would go away for awhile. I did not have to take any pain medicine for it. Janice

Yeah, I think this is pretty common Marie. I also had it. I think it may just be from laying around so much...in the hospital, at home, etc. We were just a little more immobile than normal. Also, it may be gas bubbles too....all kinds of air can get trapped in there during surgery and is looking for a way out! (Be nice Kevin!) Hope you feel better soon! Theresa

I was told it was VERY common and is usually from the operating table. Also sometimes the gas trapped in our system from the operation causes pain that can be mistaken for muscle pain in the shoulders or back area. In any case, i went through it too and when i mentioned it on the boards and at support groups i got a lot of responses from others who went through the same thing. You are not alone.

There is a great book that I read and have recommended to others. It is written by a chiropractor who had the surgery himself. It gives lots of good info and tips. It is called Post-Op Success for "Losers" by Dr. Jeffrey Cohen. I got it at www.lulu.com/bariatric. I hope this helps. Ellen
