Has anyone bought the Pre-surgical kit from Hurley and is this something you take (all the protein and fruit drinks) ALONG with eating a healthy diet BEFORE surgery? I would appreciate any info...thanks so much. Sue

Good question! I am wondering how it works too. I just talked to a nurse yesterday and found out about some sort of diet 8 days pre op. But she said I would get all the details at my NUT class. I would kind of like to know how it works now though, so I can be prepared..... Thanks for asking this question. Shawn M.

when I had my initial consultation last month (Sept 15th) I was told that the 8-day liquid diet program was being extended to 14-days. I was also told the "program" (food I'm assuming) cost $130. I'm still waiting for approval for surgery and haven't met with their office again, so I haven't had a chance to ask additional questions. Sue - with your surgery date so close, I would recommend calling Hurley to find out if you're suppose to be on this special diet already. I'd hate to see your surgery postponed because they didn't bother telling you that you're suppose to be on some special diet. You're less than a week away, right? Let us know what you find out. Pam

Hi I am going to Hurley also, I am awaiting my nutritional class also. I surely would like to know about this also. I hope someone comes along and knows. Thanks Chris

I had surgery at Hurley in August of 05. They must've changed things because there was no pre-surgical diet then. The only thing they required was 48 hours of eating "lite" and 24 hours of liquids. My how things have changed! Tina

Hi hurley, my Dr. Told me for 8 days you have to be on a low-fat/low cal diet 800-1000 cal a day and last day is a clear liquid only stoping at 10pm night before surgery marie

That must be something new. I had my surgery at Hurley in April 2004, and had no presurgical diet. Just lite stuff two days before. Good luck. Tracey

I had surgery this Sept @Hurley and they had that 8 day pre-op diet that we were to purchase. It was $89.99 to have some protein, puddings, meal plan and things like that to eat lite. I never purchased it. The Nut there gave a list of a food that could be followed according to a specialized diet plan, it come in a binder at your nutrition class. It worked out pretty good, just following that list. They'll explain everything in the class...and if you need help with a meal plan instead of buying the kit, they'll help you. So, either way you'll be ready for surgery, just stick to one of them. Best wishes.
