Giving Up On Protein???

My nutritionist insists that I get most if not all of my protein from regular food, unless I have problems with regular food. She doesn't want me using protein shakes at all. She want me eating like regular people. Can't you eat real food? It's a lot cheaper. I bought 18 eggs for $1 last week. Great source of protein. Eileen

Rhonda, I am in agreement with Eileen and Ann. My NUT.also says protien should come from food sources rather than shakes and liquids. You are better off to eat food and fortify it with protien powder. I am 4 months post - op and the only reason I have liquid protien is if a particular food has made me sick and I cannot stomach anymore food for a bit. I then will use a shake to get my remaining protien in. Right now I have that cold and flu that is going around, I called the Nut. to ask her what to do,because I have no appetite. She told me it was ok to use fruit protien drinks in a case like a cold or the flu when you have lost your appetite, but then return to food as soon as I was able. Phyllis Gilbert

I guess I'm afraid of eating too much regular food and gaining weight. I'm also afraid of grazing. The Syntrax Nectar has 90 calories for 16 ounces and 25 grams of protein per serving. That's also how I get in 32 ounces of water for the day...

Yes dear - it could hurt you to give up protein all together. Why is it that you're taking such an expensive kind? Is it the only thing that you tollerate? I buy Designer Whey Vanilla from WalMart $15 (lasts about three weeks) and I put it in sf hot chocolate!! I drink 2 per day for 60 grams of protein and the rest I get from food. Email me and tell me what's up!!! Hugs, Laurie

Thanks for the input Laurie. I just bought some Swiss Miss SF Hot Chocolate from Sam's, and perhaps they might have the Designer Whey Protein. I will check. If not, there's two Wal-Mart's close by.

3 oz of meat/chicken/fish/mouse/shrimp/horsemeat = about 17 to 21 grams of protein. That's a good way to get it in. Stop eating protein and you will wither and die. kp

Thanks Kevin. It's just that I have been frustrated of late and just don't know what I should be doing. Why can't there just be a pill that's a protein supplement ??
