Searching for a surgeon - Recommendations requested

I would strongly recommend Dr. Obeid out of Hurley Hospital in Flint. He was fabulous and provided wonderful care for both my RNY and my hernia operation. Good luck to you and welcome to the website. Lurk all you want. Tracey

All I can say is I know of two people who had lap band both by different surgeons and after one year both people had them removed and bypass done, so research carefully and make sure that is the procedure for you. They both had a lot of trouble eating afterward with different flours and breads. Not sure if they followed post op directions properly or what went wrong.. Good luck in making your decision. I had bypass by Dr. Kevin Krause at Royal Oak Beaumont and his office was great about handling all the insurance issues, I never had one problem, not to mention he is the most gentle surgeon I could imagine.

Hi. Thanks for your response (and thanks to everyone else, too!). Dr. Krause is at the top of my list, as he seems to have good reviews and is very close to my home. Its great to hear that his office handles the insurance issues! As to the lap-band -- I have lurked a fair amount in that forum. I terribly interested though, in any pros/cons that anyone cares to offer about either lap-band or bypass. I understand that weight loss is slower with lap-band, but it seems to have a much lower complication rate and a similar weight loss arc over 5 years. It also seems that more people complain about not being able to eat with bypass than with lap-band. Is that a faulty perception? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
