Gall Bladders - a joy of life post WLS?

Hi everybody - It's been a million years since I've been here between work, kids, moving, etc. So, in the briefest of updates - I'm down 94 lbs. in 9 months and 6 or 7 dress sizes depending on the brand. I've felt better than I have in years. Cholesterol - NO issues. GERD - no issues. High Blood Pressure - normal for the first time in over a decade. (No - no updated recent pics - I'll try to get some soon so I can update my site.) It isn't an exaggeration to say that this surgery was one of the greatest blessings in my life. But I started feeling a bit off a couple of weeks ago- twingy pain in my lower right side, nauseated, bit fevery but very low grade- with intermittent bouts of pretty strong pain in my abdomin. Strong enough to make be double over and tear up. I'm not at the moment in any terrible pain - it really does come and go. My primary care doc thinks I've got gall stones and need to have the gall bladder out. I won't see the specialists for another week and 1/2 for confirmation but wondering if any of the rest of you RNY folks here have had to have yours out? Could they do it Lap or did you have to do Open because of the changes in where your "parts" were? One of my friends describes this a little bump in the road to feeling wonderful and I have to agree - unless of course I'm doubled up and then I think her sense of peaceful acceptance for the birds. Anyway - glad to see a bunch of old timers here. And looking forward to any words of wisdom on things to do to feel better until someone can take the dratted thing out. All my best, Michele P

Hi Michele, I had my GB taken out during my lap RNY. My surg. said it was full of stones and needed to just go. Before surgery, I had the same kind of pain you are describing. It was horrible, and you can't really explain it to someone who hasn't gone through it. Unfortunately, nothing helped, not even the strongest pain meds. Mine was irritated by certain things in my diet. Maybe keeping a food journal could help you pin point if something just isn't agreeing with you. I'm glad you're in otherwise good health, and hopefully you can have it taken out lap if needed. Best of luck to you, Brenda

I had my gall bladder taken out LAP B4 I had my surgery. I only wish they would have told me about using cocoa butter on the scars. At least I knew how I would feel when I did have the RNY done LAP.
