WalMart is doing away with lay away

This really ticks me off. Wal Mart will no longer be offering lay away. This is the only way we get a lot of the stuff we buy for the kids. Steve doesn't get his Christmas money until the SECOND week in December. I've always put everything in lay away and then just got it out when he gets his check. Now, everything will be gone by then. I'm sooooo dissapointed. Just put it on a credit card you say??? NO WAY!!! I'm not going into DEBT for Christmas, birthdays, or any other reason I can avoid!!!! And by paying interest on my gifts it completely defeats the purpose of shopping at low price stores!! If you're with me then send a comment to walmart!!! http://walmartstores.com/GlobalWMStoresWeb/navigate.do?catg=221 Laurie

Hey Laurie, What about Kmart? I have a friend that does this every year at Kmart. I don't blame you for not wanting to charge on credit. Take care, Carey

I've never been a kmart shopper, but will certainly be looking into shopping alternatives now!! I know Meijer's has layaway, they do charge a fee for it though ($3.00 I think) so I'd just have to plan carefully. Laurie

If you have access to a big K-Mart (I think it's called Super-K) they are really great with prices very comparable to WalMart and excellent variety. Try it, you'll like it!! I just hope that K-Mart and Meijers don't decide to follow the WalMart lead and drop their lay-away too! Bonnie

I used to manage the layaway department at the Bay City WM (years ago). And I gotta tell you that I'm not surprised. The layaway department takes up a TON of space in the store room, doesn't bring in any additional money above a normal sale and takes a crew of about 10 people to run during busy times at Christmas and back-to-school. I know it's very convenient for many people and there are some really faithful customers who use it religiously. But if WM is just looking at their bottom line (which is what all businesses do), I'm not surprised at all. Pam

I know Meijer also has a lay-away program and I get a lot of my sons clothing there. They have really good prices. I got his winter coat for $17.49...it was regular $24.99 and it was on sale. It is really big and warm and fleece lined. I would have paid a fortune elsewhere. I know that TJ Maxx also has a lay away program. K Mart has good prices every once in a while. If you do a lay away there, remember to watch the sale paper for things you may have put away because you can go into the store and get a price adjustment on your layaway!! Stacey B

if you boycott Walmart then little kids in China won't get as much overtime this year, that's not fair to them!

I seldom shop at Wal Mart- being in a Union, they are not unionized, and not much in the store is made in the USA. I do not care for the WalMart here in my town, it's dirty, unorganized and cluttered. There are nicer WalMarts in this state, but I prefer to shop at Target or KMart or Meijer. For Clothes, I am a Kohl's and JC Penney addict....more now than before WLS. I support the USA and it's products, but I have to tell you when it comes to WalMart, the staff there is overworked and underpaid and I have a good friend who works there and complains more than I want to hear about management problems. I am on the fence on this one because alot of people shop at WalMart and there are those of us who prefer not to but sometimes do. I can't be one way or the other here. ? Sorry ? Stacey
