Hi everyone, I just went for my psychological exam and then next thursday I go see Dr. Wagner at Hurley Bariatric Center. Then schedule the surgery. I'm beginning to wonder should I or shouldnt I do this? Is this normal? I am so afraid. Yet so excited to get this weight off as I am so tired, tired of huffin and puffin and all the headaches with c-pap, diabetic shots etc. Does anyone have a good protein drink or helpful hints for me? Thanks Chris

C-pap , diabetes, headaches, huffin and puffin, being tired.......Of course you should do it. Being afraid is very normal, we all go through it. I tried to back out the day of surgery, and i thank God my husband was there reminding me how badly i wanted it. Believe me, once you get that weight off you'll thank God every single day for your decision. As for protein, it took me a good six months to finally find one i like. I went to bariatriceating.com and ordered the samples and actually found a few. My favorite is the elite chocolate mint, and i still use it at over 2 years post op. So start getting rid of the junk food, get out and walk as much as possible and get on some vitamins. This will help you be stronger for surgery and recover easier. Email me anytime. Hugs Linda

it's normal to have doubts. obviously it's not a decision to take lightly and isn't for everyone. you need to weigh the pros and cons and alternatives and carefully make your decision. most of us who've had the surgery are happy we did so, but not all of us, and unfortunately the ones who are not, may not be around to tell you why. for most of us we probably wouldn't still be around if we had not had the surgery. some people can get healthy without it, and some people are not so obese as to be at a high level of risk and those people should probably NOT have the surgery. I've heard some people say they only had the surgery because they don't want to diet. i guess everyone has to decide for themselves but it's one heck of a risk to take just to avoid a diet (and you'll find your eating habits changed permanently anyhow). Some are not ready to comply with the lifestyle change or are not psychologically capable. and for some the risks of surgery are extremely high. and of course the quality of your surgeon has a great deal to do with the risks. all these things need to be considered carefully as part of your decision. I can tell you that in the 15 months since my surgery my life has changed for the better in many many ways and i have no regrets at all. it's the best thing i ever did FOR ME. I like Isopure Zero Carp protein powder and Matrix protein powders for my protein drinks. i've heard others on these boards rave about Unjury but i have not tried it myself. good luck.
