Pam, That was the exact wording sent to me. I know exactly how you feel. I am also hard of hearing and have a cochlear implant. So I am still not comfortable using the phone. My husband had to make alot of calls for me. We called everyday and sometimes several times a day. At first it was it IS covered. Then it is Not a covered benefit. I asked for a letter sent of my requirements each time only to be told they can't do that. Or I could get that at my husband HR office. Ofcourse they didn't have this info either. Finally we started calling and demanding a written policy on it. When they said they couldn't we said it was our right. Finally after about 2 months they sent it to us. My worry now is....If I am not able to send off for approval before the end of the year the policy could change and have a exclusion. I pray not, but it could happen. I hope on my first surgeon visit they will be able to know more, but I am on their online support group and so far No one approved in the group there had BCBS almost all were UHC or Cigna. Shonna

Shonna, I had the same PCP for 10years, on & off i saw him about my weight. I had high blood preasure, my legs swelled up alot from being over weight. So when I decided on a weight loss surgeon, I was assigned to a WLS REP. She did all the paper work and told me what I needed, At that time I only needed the letter from My PCP. LIke others have said all INS. are different. The people who handle all that at your surgeons office know all the ins & outs of the ins companys. It's a rough ride before Wls but well worth it once you get there. Good Luck

Pam: Do you have a phone number (other than the customer service # on the back of the card) that I could call to check the status of my claim? My surgeon absolutley will NOT perform the surgery without a pre-authorization and it's been about two months since they submitted the request. The customer service reps all tell me the same thing, that I don't need a pre-auth but won't give me any other details. Any help is much appreciated, I'm ready to pull my hair out. -Traci

Does BCBS not give a pre-cert determination? That would be a problem for me also. Shonna
