I'm only 2 weeks post op, shouldn't I be losing like crazy??? The first week I lost 14 pounds but this last week NOTHING!! It's very frustrating to not be able to eat but also not be losing any weight. The only thing I can think of is that my body thinks I'm starving it so it's holding on to the weight until it realizes this is the way it's going to be from now on, then the weight will start to fall off. Am I right??? Has this happened to anyone else?? I barely eat because since I can't eat what I want, I feel like, "why bother"? I'm also not getting my vitamins in either like I should..............

Now, Rachel you have to eat and get in your protein....let's get that metabolism to going. The scale is moving slow with me too, but don't panic, cuz you're probably losing inches. I am, to where my clothes are really starting to hang but the scale doesn't always move at the same pace. I'm realizing that. If the clothes are hanging, sagging and bagging, then you know you're on the right track I say. So,........ eat, walk, protein, walk, eat, protein, water and proper rest....did I happen to mention..walk, eat, protein, water, walk and protein....oh yeah I did. lol!!! You'll be fine hun.....stop stressin'! Take care. Kori

Rachel, I think you are right. The body does protect itself. What is happening is normal. You will lose. It does get frustrating when you know you are hardly taking anything in and you are not losing weight. I only lost thirteen pounds a month for the first four months. I am now almost nine months out and down one hundred and three pounds. I am twelve pounds under goal. Your fourteen pounds you already lost is a great accomplishment. Just have patience. These extra pounds you have will be a part of history before ya know it. Good luck!! You saying "why bother" doe**** a nerve with me a little. You must of known going into this surgery that you would not be able to eat and then not be able to eat the way you used to. You have just done something that can help you become a healthier person. It is a rough road but you must take care of you. I like to compare us to cars. A car needs gas to run. Well food is our fuel...it is the matter of what octane we are putting in our bodies to get the best performance, Please take care of yourself. Also you NEED to take your vitamins now and forever, but especially while you are not getting in the proper nutrients through food intake. This is vital due to our malabsorption. Please do not skimp on this. Positive vibes Megan

Rachel, I am almost three months out. I hit a 'stall' from weeks 3-1/2 to week 6. I dropped, MAYBE, three pounds that whole time. I was having the same feelings you are now. But knowing that the stall happens (from what I had researched was weeks 3 to 8 is when the stall starts and stops) I was prepared for it. Now I am loosing again and am happy to be out of the stall. THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY! Have you checked your 'September' board? If you watch it you can see what others are going through that are in your time frame. I watched my month and I found that there were several posts regarding the dreaded stall during the time I was going through mine. So it's not uncommon. Your body is healing. Your body is adjusting. Your body is wondering what the heck happened to it and trying to hold onto what it has. You cannot abandon it and 'why bother'. You must eat, you must take your protein, you must drink your water and you must get your exercise in. Believe me, just going through what you went through......it will change. I know it's hard to believe but wait a few weeks and you will start to loose again just like everyone else that hits the early stall does. Michelle

Where do I find the September board of people who have had the surgery? How much have you lost so far being 3 months out? I'm happy to report (to everyone) that I took my vitamins this morning, had a protein shake, drank a half a bottle of water, took my daughter for a 1 mile walk, just came home and ate 1/4 cup of ff refried beans. I know I need to eat to lose but I was so tired of jello, pudding, and broth that I didn't even feel like eating. Today is day 14 so I can have pureed foods now so those bean**** the spot!!

My surgery date forum showed up after I put in my surgery date. There is a link on the left side of the screen (when I am on Michigan board). The heading for that link is "Other Message Boards". Included under that heading is Roux-en-Y; Main board; my surgeon's forum. Check to see if yours is there. Otherwise, I dont know how to tell you to find it. Someone else might now???? I have lost 54 pounds in three months. I stated earlier I was in a stall, which actually lasted until week 6-1/2 or 7 (I originally put 6 weeks but after thinking about it and double checking my journal, I recalled my stall stopped at 6-1/2 to 7 weeks out). In the past month I have lost 20 pounds. It's hard to come to the realization that the weight will come off. I, like others I am sure, want the weight to come off NOW! But when you really think about it, how long did it take you to get to the weight you were preop? How many times did you try and not have a weight loss of any large amounts in a week and keep it off? It will be slow at times, it will be fast at times, you will hit stalls. But the best thing to remember is to take your protein, take your vitamins, drink your water and exercise / walk. As far as food with the stage you are in. Add variety. Blend some soups. Eat cottage cheese. I put Smuckers Jam (sugar free made with Splenda) on top of mine which really helps cure my sweet craving. Blend some finely chopped or shredded chicken (I put chicken in a pan with water and leave it on the stove for several hours on a low setting) with a little sour cream and cheese...you can add finely chopped onions and celery if you like that stuff. Sounds kinda gross, but it's kinda like a chicken salad. I was allowed to eat mashed potatoes at the time frame you are in. Put some shredded cheese on those refried beans - adds more protein! Make a tuna salad. If you like seafood and are up to trying, take imitation crabmeat and finely chop it up and make into a seafood salad. Once you get your protein in, start in on some veggies. Take green beans and mash them down. Whatever you eat, JUST MAKE SURE YOU CHEW, CHEW, CHEW AND THEN CHEW SOME MORE!! I currently feel that I eat ALL DAY. In the morning I have my protein shake (8 oz which takes me over an hour to finish); Water; Mid morning snack; Water; Lunch; Water; Mid afternoon snack; Water; Dinner and sometimes I may or may not eat after that. Depends on how late I am up. I wonder how I can still loose when I am eating all day long, but the amount of food I consume is small and it gets in the nutrients that I need so I still loose. Hope this helps. Michelle

Yep Rachel, they are right and so are you. Your body thinks it's starving so it is trying to hold onto whatever it can. But believe me, IT CAN'T FOREVER! One of these days you are going to see a BIG drop, and on and on you'll go. Whenever these "stalls" occur, just remember, your body is catching up with itself....it has to. Trust me...you will lose! But you have to eat. You may not like what is available to you, but you still have to eat. It's so important! And your weight loss will really kick in then. Your body will then think, "I'm not starving after all!", and will let go of the weight more quickly. It's the easiest way to explain this. Don't worry...it's gonna come off!!! Theresa

Check list - Starvation mode? Are you kick starting the metabolism in the am with protein water and walk? Are you taking in protein on regular intervals? Enough water? Increase any of these and you will lose. Also remember you are a woman and unfortunately you lose slower and different than men. You'll get there. kp
