Lock your doors in the midwest???
Well, if you don't, you better! Tonight around 6pm the hubby & I were waiting for the teenage girls to get home from an after school event. We live way out in the country and we have never had our door locked during the day unless we were gone from the house. Tonight our door bounded open and we were thinking it was the girls & didn't bother to go check and all of a sudden this man's voice yells out "Hello is someone here I need some help" My husband rushed toward the stairs to see what was going on (we have a split entry house) and this guy says to him he is in trouble & needs to use our phone to call the police. So I grabbed the cordless phone and start down the stairs to where my hubby now is with the guy & I say if you want I will let you use the phone while you go back out onto the porch and I started to direct him outside and he turns and tries to head for our stairs to go up into our home even farther. I don't know where I got the strength but I managed to shove the guy out the door right when two cars pulled into my driveway. I guess some man driving by heard me yelling at the guy (didn't realize I was yelling) and decided to pull in to help. My daughters were in the 2nd car that pulled in. Well, hubby decided to go out to see about the two cars that pulled in and upon seeing our daughters got them into the house and the other guy took off after the man (who was on foot) Well, police just left our house after informing me that this guy fits the description of an armed man that has been committing home invasions with a hunting knife that they have been looking for since he started his streak back in July. The cop informed us of how lucky we were that we weren't harmed because this man is considered to be extremely dangerous. And now I have police dogs on my front lawn following this guy's scent so that they can hopefully catch him. I know I am rambling now (can you tell my adrenaline is still way up)
Anyway, make sure you kiss your kids, tell your spouse you love them and LOCK YOUR DOORS!
Tracy, I am so proud of you for your quick rational thinking and acting so fast! You will probably feel frightened for some time. Make sure you talk this out with your husband and good friends. This was truly a scary experience. Your daughters will probably need to talk about it as well to work out their feelings. You were tremendously brave. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow. That's wild. The last man who made his way onto our yard found himself on the business end of our Doberman. You shoulda seen tat SOB run!!!!! I also caught a guy sneaking around the neighbors house. The dog heard him and the 9mm directed him to a new spiritual plane. I'm not sure if he was religious but he was a praying man when Mr. Beretta was introduced into the mix.
Stay safe.

Oh the stories I could tell you about what has happened to my dear friend that is a school teacher and lives "in town" in Battle Creek. As recent as last month while she was returning home from a weekend at the county fair to be with her grandkids, while she was unloading her car she was robbed of her luggage & personal belongings. I know this is not unique to your area but I share this with you to emphasize that indeed you are so very fortunate to be ok and wise enough to now start locking your doors.
Let's hope the police & dogs find the creep.
