Need Help With Protein
I am 7 days post op and I was told that I should get in 90 grams of protein a day. I just started full liquids today. I don't see how it is possible to get all that in unless all I drink is protein shakes. My protein has 27 grams in a 5 oz serving. Well if I can only have 2oz per meal how do I do this. Is it possible to use onescoop of protein in less than 5 oz and it still work. Right now I'm not too worriedabout how it tastes I just want to make sure I can get it all in and still be able to eat different thing each day. Please help, any suggestions are welcome!!
First of all Angela congratulations an the beginning of a new and wonderful life on the losers side.
The goal is definitley 90 gms of protein but in such early pre-op days you are not going to make it. Just keep trying though. Eventually you will get there. Until then there are so many different protein powders out there. Some are unflavored and you can sprinkle them on top of things like cottage cheese etc. Then there are the flavored ones. It is a touch 'n go and try and try again as some you will like today and hate tomorrow.
Try ordering as many samples as you can on line to see which you like. In the mean time sip, sip, sip those protein drinks try Carnation breakfast for now. I also found that if you don't like them, flavor wise, but can't stand to spend all that money and then just throw it out, try using a straw to drink them. It seems to help them go down easier.
Good luck and again congrats on doing such a healthy and wonderful thing for yourself.

dont forget that you can add egg whites to things which will boost your protein intake......you are are going to do just great........i and many others also pureed chili (often from wendy's) to help get protein in.........you will find what works best for you........just dont get frustrated....some days something works well and the next day you do the same exact thing and cant handle it.......it is just trial and error! but you are doing the right thing by trying to figure out what will be the best for you and getting different opinions and ideas from the board! good luck! hug , rae
Congrads on your surgery...from my expereince, I ate and still do after 3 years all the following: cottage cheese, yougarts, puddings, soups, protein shakes (one a day)
tuna and chicken salad, eggs and egg salad.
I am supposed to have 57 grams per day and I doubt I do. U can only do what u can do. Your blood will be checked and if there is a problem, they will tell u and make changes in your diet. If u haven't already...see a dietican. They know all the tricks.
Best of luck..
Robin
PS..make sure u drink TONS of water!
Hi!
I'm a little more than 3 weeks out now. Here's what you get: go to Vitamin Shoppe and buy some of the New Whey protein supplement. It is 25 grams protein, no carbs, no sugar and only 3 ounces. You'll have a lot better luck getting that down than the big protein shakes! It's a little pricey at $2.50 per tube (comes premixed ready to drink in a 3 ounce plastic tube), but worth it at first to get the protein in. Oh hey, I see the Profect ad over on the left side bar. New Whey is a profect clone. I think it's a *****eaper. I like it because I can just run up to Vitamin Shoppe and buy without having to order it and have it shipped. Good luck.
