Chocolate Bar
I bought a chocolate bar at Meijer a while ago and wanted to see what you all think about it. It's called Eat Well Be Well. I found it in the "Healthy Living" section of the baking aisle with all the organic and diabetic-friendly items. It comes in plain and almond. It is sugar free and sugar alcohol free. Here are the details for the plain chocolate bar:
1 bar (1.2 ounces) is 175 calories (cals from fat 108)
Fat 12 g
Sat fat 7 g
Trans Fat 0
Cholesterol 0
Sodium 40 mg
Total carb 16 g
Dietary Fiber 14 g
Sugars 0
Sugar Alcohol 0
Protein 3
The ingredients are:
Chocolate Liquor, Polydextrose (fiber), Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Powder, Soy Lecethin, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sucralose, Vanilla
I have eaten one but not all at once. Maybe a third at a time just for when I really want chocolate. It tastes nothing like a Hershey bar (as I recall!) but for me, it's a good substitute. It's an occasional indulgence. I don't want to get into the habit of eating them often. Also, they are expensive - about $1.40 per bar.
Well I would say you can do better with another brand, get more protein and less carbs. What I buy for this is THE ZONE bars at Wal-Mart. I think a box of 6 is less than $5.00. They are .98 a piece when purchased seperately
Be careful as there are the ZONE LOW CARB then there are the ZONE PERFECT which are NOT low carb
I am currently out of the low carb one so I can't give you all their details but I know their net carbs are 3
Here is the info for ZONE PERFECT:

Hi again,
Rooting around my kitchen I found one of the low carb protein bars I was referring to earlier. It is not THE ZONE instead it is called PURE PROTEIN/America's Protein Bar and a box of 5 or six is under $5.00 at Wally World (Wal-Mart) They have 3 flavors Smore's, Peanut Butter & Chewy Choolatec Chip. I like all 3 but the peanut butter is my favorite Each bar has 19 or 20 gms of protein and 3 net carbs.
They also have a web sight: www.americasproteinbar.com

Atkins also makes a Granola Bar that is decent. Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter. Low carbs (I think 17 grams) 17 protein and NO sugars. They taste good but I have eaten those for 3 months now and switched over to the pure protein you mention to see if I like them. I like light bars.
The Zone bars had too much sugar and not enough protein for me-- I look for at least 17 grams of protein so I don't have to eat as many of them per day. Personal preference I guess!! Power Crunch is also way good- like a light wafer and they come in numerous flavors. I like the peanut butter and chocolate. Mmmmmm. But the hard part is you have to get them online.
I looked at Target yesterday through about 20 bars and only found 3 with sufficient protein and low carbs and sugars that would work for me, two were Atkins Advantage Granola Bars and then the Pure Protein bars. Protein bars can be tough to find depending on your tastes.

Hi Sandra. My favourite for a chocolate fix is the Power Crunch Bar - Triple Chocolate. The taste is delicious. There is no protein/soy weird aftertaste and it has a lot of protein. I get them at Vitamin Shoppe, but I am sure there are other places. Less fat than yours, less carbs and more protein than yours and no soy/lecethin taste. They are definitely worth trying!
