To KP.........err, Angus (OT)
Hello KP, I just wanted to tell you that I think the way you "shepherd" people on OH is really admirable. I wonder if you are as funny in real life as you are on the board????
I heard a great jazz combo yesterday and wondered (because I think you play jazz too?) if you'd heard of these guys - - Alvin Wattles is the keyboard guy and woo-hoo can he bang the HELL out of that keyboard. Marian Hayden on bass and Charlie Gabriel on sax. Can't remember the drummer's name. Oh, they were so good! His group was accompanying the Rackham Symphony Choir at a concert yesterday but they had their own set (a Fats Waller review) during the concert (definitely the best part) and it was just awesome. Have you heard any of these people play? It's hard to believe that they aren't FAMOUS after what I heard yesterday. I first heard Alvin Wattles at a performance of "Too Hot to Handel" (jazz/gospel version of Handel's Messiah) if you haven't heard this concert you should. They're doing it again this year in early December. Anyway, please don't think I'm crazy for going on and on - it was just a great musical experience and I wondered if you knew any of these guys, or had heard of them.
Karen
Thanks for the kind words.
I find myself rather boring and drab. It is from a deep rooted insecurity complex compounded by a big toe fetish.
I have note heard of them but I will look for them in the future. Realistically, there are so many good musicians out there working that never get a break because it is not about the music but rather the image. If all we had to go on was an unprocessed, nameless track to decide if we wanted to continue listening there would be a lot more good choices made in the music arena.
Just like the bias we put up with it is the same in music. If you don't fit the uniform you can't be Johnny Bravo.
