Hello- I am still very new to all of this and have a question. I have read a lot of people lose their hair? Is this common? I had my consultation, my psych evaluation, a stress test and all I have left to do is a sleep study. I am on my way!

Hi Sandra! I had my surgery about 6 months ago, and I lost a lot of hair in the front. I take biotin and get all my protein, and it still washed down the drain. I don't know exactly what more can be done. I had read that it happens to a lot of people, so I kind of expected it. You never know, it might not be a problem for you. Brenda

I had my surgery last December and I have lost some hair but not too bad. My husband is about a year and a half out and he has lost some also but it jsut started this summer. From what I have heard it should come back but even if it doesn't I could care less. I am down 104 pounds and feel better than I have in years....

Start taking the biotin BEFORE your surgery, if possible. Yes, you will experience hair loss, but it shouldn't be too bad. I have yet to see someone go completely bald from the surgery! I am a year out and I still take my biotin. My brand is Rexall and I got it at Wal-mart.

I started taking Biotin also 5000mcg twice a day when I saw my hair loss starting. However, I ended up having kidney stones about a month ago, and there is a warning on the bottle that "if you have had kidney stones do not take this product".... The ones I took were large capsules but I do know that since I monitored my protein and hit above 70 grams per day, My hair is growing well now. It's actually close to putting in a teeny pony tail!! Like posted, it doesn't happen to all, and it may or may not happen to you but just as a precaution monitor and write down your protein intakes daily and make sure you are getting it in. Stacey W

Hi Sandra! Yes, it seems a lot of us do experience some degree of hair loss along with our weight loss It usually starts somewhere between 3 and 6 months out. The biotin helps keep your hair nice and strong and helps when it's growing back in. Of course your protein and liquids also are key...but don't worry, it DOES grow back in!! You'll notice it more than others will, and if you have a regular hairdresser, they'll notice it. I have a wonderful hairdresser that has helped me work with my hair to make it look fuller, and now we're working with all this new growth that's gotten to be about an inch long and wants to stand straight up! Don't worry...just do what you can and enjoy being on the losers' bench! Lizzie B

Hey Sandra, I lost quite a bit of hair and just about the time I was thinking WIG!!! it started coming back in. Much thicker, curlier, and very healthy. I agree with everyone else, it's a small price to pay and it does come back. Good Luck, Ali Rae

hi.. i havent had surgery yet but this is also a concern for me. i have thin hair to begin with because i have hereditary hair loss. it's great fun! but u know, no one knows it because i use a product called Dermatch. u can look it up online. it's amazing stuff! u basically color your scalp to match your hair color so there is no visible pink scalp and black hair or what have you. it also grabs onto the teeny tiny "vellus" hair, i think it's called and makes it thicker! it's a God send. i've struggled with hair issues for several years and even wore a wig for 2 of them. now i just use that stuff and i get compliments on my thick hair and i LOVE it when people tell my baby that she has a thick head of hair just like her momma! but i'm going to start taking biotin. i havent heard of that before. any little thing helps! but i dont care, i'd rather be thin and balding than fat and balding! just thought i'd add that bit of advice. but i hope u dont have any hair problems!!

I am now almost 3 years out. I never experienced any hair loss. Not everyone does. I am told that getting in as much protien as possible will help. I guess it helped that I didn't eat a lot of meat before surgery. I have learned to eat a lot more, so maybe that is why I didn't have the hair loss that some experience. Peggy
