Hiya, I'm Sarah and I admit I've been lurking for about a month here while I try to figure out if GBS is right for me. I finally made a profile today because I wanted to join in! I've gone for an initial consult at Barix in Ypsi, and I qualify for the surgery. I am just wondering what people thought of the clinic, regardless of if you got your surgery there or not. I met with Dr. Poplawski and he had shaky hands during the presentation and I thought that was a bad sign! :angst: Any advice would be great... Sarah

Hi Sarah and Welcome! I did not go to Barix only because at the time they did not accept BCBS (if you can believe that!). I went to Henry Ford and was very happy with them. But back to your question, I have only heard good things about Barix, and know several people that had gone there for their surgeries. They loved it! They said the Drs., nurses, right down to the maintenance crew that mops the floors are so wonderful and encouraging! I don't know anything personally about Dr. Poplawski. I have heard of many that have used him...just don't know any details. I'm sure someone will chime in here to let you know their experiences. Best of luck to you on your journey and welcome! No more lurking!!! Theresa

Sarah I had my surgery at Barix and everyone there was wonderful. Dr Pop was not my surgeon for RNY, but I did end up with a stricture and he was the on call surgeon that did the surgery and I loved him. He was very friendly and had a real sense of urgency when I called the after hours number. I loved my surgeon and would rate DR Pop right up there with him. Best of luck in your decision, I dont think that you would be unhappy with your choice if you decide to go with Barix. Hope that helps. Stacy

Hi Sarah, I had Dr. Pop for my RNY and he was great. You really don't see too much of him after the surgery. All of the staff do everything else for you. The day of surgery he meets with you and answers any last minute questions and then off you go. He does follow up the next day and then thats it. Dr. Pop was in the kidney transplant field before he came to Barix. I hope this helps you!!!

I used Ypsi and I am originally from the south so having moved to Michigan and using all new DR.s with no feedback but from the computer was taking a leap of faith, but no regrets here. People were very caring and if I was in pain, bam, it was taken care of. I had surgery last Dec 6th and to date, have lost 98lbs...you won't regret your decision....good luck!!!

Barix is da BOMB! (I agree whole heartedly with everything Theresa said!) Dr. Pop has an excellent track record and is exceedingly versed in bariatric surgery...as is my doc...Dr. Schram. But, ultimately, it's your life and your choice. If you are uncomfortable because of how he was during his presentation, you owe it to yourself to either talk to him further one-on-one, choose a different surgeon, or go with a different facility. Best of luck! Maria W.

Sarah, I did not go to Barix (when I went there it was called Bariatric Treatment Center) because it was very very dirty!. The doctor I had a consult with was nice, Dr Lane (I don't think he is there any more). He spend alot of time with me and I did like him. The nursing staff seemed to be troubled, they were unable to take my blood pressure correctly and couldn't find my pulse. That bothered me! The exam room had trash over flowing in the trash can and a empty pop can on the table. I'm sure that can was not mine! That bothered me too. I do know a few people that went there and they all did well. Maybe it was just a bad day all around. I had my surgery at Beaumont in Royal Oak..(.Dr Kevin Krause,) he saved my life. There after care program is wonderful. I am 3 years out and have lost 153 pounds. If u want his number, feel free to email me. Best of luck, Robin [email protected]

I would not have chosen any other place than Barix. It was the furthest place from me in terms of Livlite, Cori and the others. Dr. Pop was fantastic. I would not have chosen anyone else. He was a former liver transplant surgeon - the liver is one of the most difficult organs to transplant. The man knows what he is doing and is a very, very skilled surgeon. I did not find Barix dirty in the least. Everything was clean when I went there. In fact, my cousin commented that he's never seen a hospital that cleaned the floors so much. As well, after every shower by a patient, they clean the shower. The staff was amazing. Everytime someone left they always asked what they could do for me before they left. The nurses and respiratory therapists were all wonderful. I had a nice private room as well which was important to me. Dawn
