What do we do if we have allergies to these products? Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone help? Thanks new member Chris

Are you allegic to Splenda? Splenda is not aspertame so that might be an idea...

I don't know if it's an allergy, but I can't eat Splenda...it gives me an awful headache. You should do some research online to see what the different kinds of sweeteners are. (ie, NutraSweet vs. Splenda) Chances are, you can can have one kind but not the other.

there are other products, splenda (sucralose) for instance is made from sugar. there's also saccharine (sweet & low etc), stevia (a natural product) and other substances that can be used. i tend to avoid all of them except for Splenda simply because i prefer the taste and it does not retard weight loss as aspartame and sacchrine do with me. I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners other than Splenda, i can't tell Splenda isn't sugar, it tastes great to me. I first started using it pre-wls when i was on the Atkins diet, it helped me lose 100lbs without surgery. Now it's a staple in our house.

Hi Chris, Join the club. Many of us are allergic to Nutra Sweet. From the very first time I tried it over 20 years ago I have not tolerated it well. It was actually part of the reason I gained weight (or so I told myself) since it was the only sugar free replacement in so many things I loved. Especially pop. As a post-op I rarely use any artificial sweetner as my doctor and support group leader both discourage it. Many before me have said and posted your taste buds will change so things you liked pre-op you won't post-op and vic-a-versa. So for now try to focus on all the positive things this life changing surgery will do for you and don't sweat the rest. Welcome to the boards and good luck in your journey.
