I am a teacher. I teach a 4th/5th multi-age gifted class. I've been teaching for 8 years, going on my 5th year at current school. I also go to school. Working on my Master's degree in Reading. I'm about 1/2 way finished. I have a bachelor's in Elementary Education with three minors: music, English and Early Childhood Ed.
I put myself through college as a manager at McDonald's. I'm thinking this greatly contributed to my weight problem. (Duh, ya think? LOL!!) I always loved that job. It was very fast paced. I actually sometimes miss it. But then summer comes....LOL!!!
After graduating from Oakland University in 2001 with a degree in HR/Training and Development I worked in the unglamorous world of payroll. I went on later to become an Asst HR Mananger at Kmart. They then proceeded to file bankruptcy. It was back into payroll I found myself until the owner of our compnay stole, lied and bankrupted us into selling. Now I work in HR for one of the leading home health care agencies in the country. I administer benefits for well over 700 employees(most of our ee's do not carry coverage as they are part time). I also do all HR function such as communicating and enforcing company policy, VOE's, and the like. I have also been put in co-charge of recruting nurse practioners for our new walk-in health care clinics that you will all soon see in your nearest Meijers or Walmarts by the end of the year. This has led me to thinking of pursuing my masters in Health Care Management. I have many years of home health care and group home employment under belt even at the management level.
So, that is my long story. No kids either just cars who think they are kids. Everyone's stories were interesting. Good idea!
Very Cool Stacey. I am a Registered Nurse working full time in community health. I do community outreach/wellness/ and program development for 3 faith communities, 2 in the city of Detroit. I am also a full time student at Oakland University working on my Masters degree in Nursing. I also have the privelage of being a full time mom to 4 sons ages, 17, 18, 19, and 20. Carol
Very cool idea Stacey! It is very interesting to read everyones stories!! My first love is being a mom!! I have 4 children -- 12, 11, 10 and 6. I'm also a Registered Nurse. I started off in Neonatal Intensive Care and then moved into Labor & Delivery. At some point, I moved into management roles and now my "official" role is Administrative Director for Women's and Children's Services at the hospital I work at. I'm an Oakland Univeristy Alum!!! I have my Bachelors of Science in Nursing and a Masters in Business Administration. I figure nursing school was great at teaching me how to be a nurse, but the curriculum did not do anything to prepare me for leadership and management roles, hence the MBA!! I love being a nurse and now the hospital administration role is equally as interesting!!!
Hi Stacey,
Right now I'm a Cook at a retirement community. My parents taught all of us (my brothers and sisters) how to cook when we were very young children. They used to put us in high chairs and let us play with flour and sugar and measuring cups and spoons etc. I even have the rolling pin I cut my teeth on. I took culinary art classes, but they didn't teach me anything I didn't already know about cooking/baking. I have worked as a cook, a baker, a cake decorator, and was a teacher (grades K- 5) for 6 years. Teaching was the most rewarding job I have ever had. I want to go back to school. I was going to do that this fall, but will have to wait for the winter semester. I want to take Digital Image Echocardiography classes, or start a career in Nursing. I have thought about taking business classes, but my interests are more in the medical field.
God bless you,
Annette
