Dr Wood did my open RNY and I had the micro pouch done. I would do it again EVERY day if I had to!!! I am down 105 lbs in 5 months and could not be happier about my decision! Good luck in your journey Jennifer 355/250/150

Dr kole did mine in 6-04. I have had 4 surgergies since to revise what he did. Stoma keeps stretching. I had my 6 month check up 18 months out. I suffer from anemia now and suffered with uncontrolled bowels for 1 year. This is just some of the problems I have had. Most people have this surgery and go on and have no problems. But, 1 in every 200 suffer complications................I was that one. Know all of the facts!!!!!!!!!

I had my surgery on 6/03. I had Dr Wood and I think the world of him. I cannot tolerate fat, fried foods and alot of sugar. I still cannot eat ALOT at a time. About 1- 1 1/2 cups at one sitting. I have a reverse effect that affects a few people and that is keeping the weight on now. I can lose weight overnight if I don't eat every 3-4 hours. But I guess it is better than being heavy and not enjoying life. I just get tired of eating all the time!

Hey Robin, I had the micro-pouch done almost 4 months ago and am down 50lbs. I also work with 2 teachers who've had the micro pouch (6yrs & 3 yrs ago respectively) and both are good. Once can eat some sugary things, but not others, and the other cannot tolerate much sugar at all. All three of us are limited in our intake. And I learned the hard way this morning before the first day of school that I can't tolerate hard boiled eggs. But most foods I'm able to eat (in small qty). Dr, Taylor did my surgery and he knows his stuff. Email me if you have any other questions or just want to chat.

I am not saying to not have the micro-pouch, but consider your options very closely. There are other procedures that I wish I would have had rather than the micropouch and at CORI. Really really do some research. There are bunch of us, some silent, some not, who are really struggling with our micropouches. There are complications that they dont really want to talk about much and CORI will deny having to do revisions. I lost a lot of weight, but not nearly what I expected...no where close to my goal. I would still qualify for surgery even 3 years out! Eventually I will get a revision when I get some health insurance. I am better off than I was, but very unhappy with my overall results. Please consider other clinics and procedures before making a final decision. Good luck and feel free to email me! Cheryl

can you email me and tell me what are the complications that they don't want to talk about? i've known a few people who've done VERY well with their micropouches but i occasionally hear these "complications" referred to while no one actually tells me what they are. i'm super curious as i've regretted not having the micropouch (although even Dr. Schuhknecht-who didn't do my surgery but does my followup as i've relocated to this area- says i've done great with my RnY and i was really happy to have it lap instead of open).

Hi Robin, I am nearly 3 years out. I am able to eat anything I want to. Mind you some of the things still cause problems, but not every time I eat them. I agree you have to do your research. In the past month I have had lots of test done because I was having "gall bladder type" problems. I had a scope done and the Dr. said he had seen many pouches, but none as good as what he saw with mine. My concern was that it was stretching since I can eat a NORMAL size meal on most days. He said that my pouch is still the same size as it was after Dr. Sapala did my surgery. I would do it over in an instant. Everybody is different. Just because one has problems doesn't mean the Dr. did something wrong. I definitely WOULD NOT go through CORI again, but they have done their job well in training Drs to do the Micro-Pouch proceedure. Drs Schuhknecht & Dr. Kole are just two that are not in with CORI any more but have been trained & do the Micro-Pouch regularly.
