I'm cosidering having lap band surgery at barix clinix in ypsy. Just wondering if any of you have wished you went with roux en y instead of the lap band. Also does the port that is used to add/subtract fluid from the band is in a location that can be bumped or irritated. thanks..

Kent, when I went to orientation at MMPC in Grand Rapids, there were two people there that had the lap band and were looking at revision to the RNY. They just didn't lose the weight they thought they would and getting fills/reductions were a pain. I was going to do the lap band but after hearing all the different surgeries I decided the RNY would be better for me. My #1 reason - I love steak and with the lap band, I wouldn't be able to eat it. My #2 reason - we're going to retire to the southwest in about 6 years and I didn't want to try to find a doctor there to do fills/reductions.

Hi Kent, I know a few people that have had the lap band. Sometimes times they have issues because they're not losing the weight as quickly as the people that had r-n-y. Other times they are happy with it because they can eat what ever they want just not as much~at the same time that's why they are not losing the weight as quickly as they could be. They also have a limited amount of fills they can get in a certain time frame. I would suggest that you go to the lap band forum to get a more accurate view from people who have had it done. Just go to the top of the page and put your mouse over the blue forums tab then click on lap band under the surgery by forums catagory. Get as much info on each of the different surgeries you are thinking about getting. Best wishes to you. Hope this helps. God bless, Annette

I have a friend that had it and he has had major issues. Did u know that u need to get "fills" every few months?? It runs about $100 per fill. I had RNY in March of 2003 and lost 153 pounds, I feel like a new person. Think out it real hard before u do it. Best of luck, Robin
