Changes in Insurance

I think open enrollment is coming up at my work. I have HAP HMO. I was wondering if anyone had HAP PPO if that makes a difference. I do know that with PPO you don't need referrals. So I could actually see the surgeon and get all pretesting done and then they would see I am in need of this surgery and am able to handle it. Any input would be helpful. The price difference in insurances isn't that much and well worth it if I could get approved. I orginally took the HMO because less out of pocket expense.

I used to have HAP HMO and I was told by the people at Cori Center that HAP doesn't want to cover WLS and it's sooooo hard trying to get approved. I was told that you need 12 months of diet history and it has to be done at one of their recommended clinics and then at the last minute it's not unusual for them to make a "change" in policy that makes more hoops to jump thru just when you think you're almost there. If possible, I'd switch to BCBS or Aetna or something other than HAP

Unfortunately that is not offered by our company. Only HAP or OSHCARE....and I want to continue to see my PCP...who is not affiliated with Oakwood. I know there are people that have or had HAP HMO and have gotten apporved so I will continue to fight also. It's ashame isn't it.

Well, it can be done, it's just going to be harder that's all. It is a shame, especially when we all know HAP can afford it. Very best of luck to you and keep us posted on how it goes. Rachel
