I felt the need to post this again so that everyone is aware of the benefits of pre registering for this event. If you register before the day of the event you are guaranteed to get the size shirt you ordered. If you show up the day of event to register you may end up with what is left which may not be your size Also registering early gives us an idea of how much product to ask from our sponsors. I want to make sure all registered walkers get enough in their goody bags! SO ONCE AGAIN...... The Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss at St. John Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights is teaming up with ASBS (American Society for Bariatric Surgery) Foundation to sponsor this year's Metro Detroit "Walk from Obesity" event. We invite you; surgeons, staff, patients, support groups, and family members to join us in this special walk. This nationwide non-competitive walking event will bring together participants of all ages throughout the community. The walk is open to anyone who wants to participate such as weight loss surgery patients, those living with obesity, the family and friends of those affected by the disease of obesity, healthcare professionals, and other members of local communities. To participate in this event you can register on www.walkfromobesity.com. Participants collect pledges that are handed in the day of the walk or they can make pledges and donations under a walkers name on the secure website provided. Bariatric surgery is a moneymaking proposition. The entire wls industry is a moneymaking proposition. Surgical instrument companies, and drug companies, among others, provide research funds. What are the funds raised by these walks supposed to pay for? Is there a fund to pay for surgery and complications for those not insured or covered by government funding? To provide low cost protein and vitamin supplements to those in need? Can I contribute to such a fund without having to beg money from friends and family? Do I really need another tshirt? Tawnya, I'm not trying to pick on you, but I just don't understand what this is really about. Where does the money go? Who oversees it?

Just Jane: Click on Tawnya's link and read up: The funds raised through this event will support the ASBS Foundation's educational mission by: Increasing research funding specifically for morbid obesity Improving obesity awareness and reducing its associated discrimination Increasing public education about this devastating disease Increasing professional education concerning effective treatments of the disease (just a clip of what the website offers) I'm quite certain no one would mind if you simply said no thanks on the t-shirt. Thanks for the response, but my questions still stand. I'm looking for specifics, and not getting them. So, I'll pass, and donate to a well-managed 501-C3 instead.

Thank you for helping with the details that were apparently missing from my original posting. I have been so busy getting the walk together and taking care of product sponsorship deals I have not been able to respond. Thanks for the support Tawnya Detherage
