Hi, I had surgery with Dr. Kam on Feb. 15 and had no problems what so ever. He was honest and upfront with me about everything and the staff at the clinic was great. Prudy

I haven't had my surgery, yet -- scheduled for 9/27-- with Dr. Kam. I had the same questions earlier when I first started "checking out" surgeons. I went to the surgeon list on this board and emailed quite a few of his patients who had posted comments. They were very kind to reply -- all with very positive responses! Don't take my word for it -- you may want to do this as well. It was very helpful for me to be able to inquire and ask questions. Blessings!

I really liked Dr.Kam, what impressed me was he was a trauma surgeon in the e.r. for 7 years before going into bariatric surgery, so he has seen knife wounds, gunshot wounds,,probably seen worse car wrecks than some people see in a war. So I figured,,wow, lap rny should be a cake walk compared to that,. You won't be disapointed ..good luck.

I didn't have Dr. Kam but alot of people on the Ontario board have and give him rave reviews. I DID have my surgery at Barix though and found my care to be absolutely amazing! I could not have done any better. It is strictly a bariatric hospital so all the staff was very empathetic to the needs of larger people. I had Dr. Poplawski who is an amazing surgeon. I would NOT have gone anywhere else and Ypsilanti was probably the furthest place from me in terms of all the different choices of surgeons available to me. They do a leak test with every surgery and this was important to me. Dawn

Had my surgery November 8, 2005 and have had no problems. Dr. Kam is one of the BEST doctors I have seen. Very knowledgeable, explains everything so you can understand what to expect during the entire process from initial consultation to the follow up appointments after your surgery. Entire staff at Barix is fantastic. Very happy with my results so far, and couldn't have done it without Dr. Kam and the staff at Barix in Ypsilanti.

Hi Marsha - I just had surgery Aug 30th with Dr. Kam - he was great! And I echo everything Diminishing Dawn said about Barix -- it was a great experience. Dr. Kam is amazing. Besides his history as an ER Trauma surgeon, he also has confessed to some folks about having a weight problem himself in his past. So he is even more understanding about things. He is a straight shooter - no BS, no guff, no sugar coating, and no "fluffy chit-chat". But he does give you as much time to answer all questions you may have, and has great advice. He has a good sense of humour, and was looking forward to the US Football games this weekend! (so we all got "shooed" out of the hospital ) Dr. Kam spent time with me the morning of surgery - and also with my friend who is here helping me, once surgery had finished. He came by every day that I was in the hopsital (Wed Aug 30th surgery; released Friday Sept 1st). He personally didn't "inspect" anything / look at me physically after surgery - but the nurses & care support were checking up every few hours. He did ask me questions. I had Lap RNY -- 7 incisions. I had lost 11 lbs. prior to surgery, and carry all my weight around my abdomen. I also liked the fact that during the consult appt, he didn't beat around the bush about stuff. He told it straight. And I especially thought this was good ... I didn't ask him about hair loss after surgery, cause I had read quite a bit on the boards. I have already had hair thinning problems due to other hormonal challenges in my life -- so he brought it up -- "you do know that most folks will experience some hair loss in months 4-8 timeframe" For this, he got even more points from me. At all stages, but saw it particularly the morning of surgery -- the staff was pretty efficient & always said "Dr. Kam wants everything to be ON TIME" ! (Yeah) And that's another thing -- he doesn't want to compromise my checkup post-surgery - but is being considerate of my travelling back & forth (it's 5 1/2 hrs drive from Toronto + construction + border crossing time). So he was originally going to see me late on Friday Sept 8th ... but moved appt to morning of Thurs. YEAH! OK - enough gushing. I am feeling great, pretty much no pain (had pain 2 out of 10 while in hospital). Just having trouble getting protein in fully. Loving the water. Marsha - you would be in great hands. Dr. Kam is, for sure, a key in my life. The Barix clinic & staff are right there in line beside him. ttfn - ElizH

Thanks everyone for all the input, I will be having surgery on Sept 13 with Dr. Kam at the Ypsilanti Center, my pre-op testing is this Tuesday. I just complete Carnie Wilson's book, I'm still hungry, it was really good, it was about her emotional journey after surgery and her struggles, I imagine alot of us can relate to her book, I know I did, and it was so good I read it in 4 days and I hate reading books, I am a mag person all the way. Anyways, she gives in tidbits of what she went through after surgery and some advice. I found it really helpful, its not some kind of bariatric bible, but I really related to her book. It was only $5 at Sams Club. Thanks, Marsha
