Rachel - your surgeon's office should tell you what you'll need the first couple of weeks home. Most surgeon's start you out on clear liquids then full liquids then pureed foods, soft foods, and finally transition you into regular foods. You'll definately want to find out what kind of time table your surgeon wants you to have. I remember for me it was sf jello, sf popcicles, chicken brooth, that was about it for the first two weeks. Full liquids went with soups mostly, crystal light. Pureed foods - quite honestly I didn't do this. I can't puree food and then eat it but I ate a lot of cottage cheese, chewed up into mush, and foods from the previous stages. Soft foods, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes (yup my doc said it was OK at this stage) then onto full foods, adding in one new thing at a time to discover what the pouch liked and didn't like.
I'd suggest getting some sample protein powders - Don't stock up on one kind though cuz your tastes will change after surgery!!
Best of wishes for you!!!!!
Laurie
Hello Rachel let me know when you get ur date because if it is near the 14th we will probably be in the hospital together. I am having surgery at Harper on the 14th with Dr. Taylor. I am stocking my cupboards with low sodium chicken broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello and some different kinds of protein drinks. If you are going through Cori Center you should have got big binder full of info and it has a very helpful shopping list.
I hope to see you there. When did you have your consult? I'm asking because I'm trying to find out how long of a wait it is once you get your consult completed. (I have to wait until at least Sept 5th because I took my last birth control on Aug 5th and then I'm taking my daughter to a concert on the 9th so it has to be after that. That's how I came up with the 11th or 12th.) The office told me that Sept is pretty open so it shouldn't be a problem for me to get a date that week, but you never know. I just want a date already!!! I'm going today at 2pm to meet with Dr. Wood so wish me luck!! Thanks for the info too. (on what to stock cupboards with) We should keep in touch because you can't have enough support when you're going thru something like this and we'll both be at the exact same stages of the process. I love this site, I've met so many wonderful people.
See Ya,
Rachel
Also you will get a wonderful binder ful lof all info you will need when you go to your consult plus all the staff are so nice and very informative. I shopped for everything that was on the shopping list provided to me. It seemed pretty complete. PLus they have sample recipes and sample daily diets.
