Two-year checkup
I had my two-year checkup Wednesday at MMPC. Nancy the PA was very pleased with my progress. Here are my stats: Weight was 185 (starting weight was 347), so I am down 162 (down 31 from last year); Lost 15 inches off my waist, 20 inches off my hips and my BMI is 31, down 23. Actually, the BMI is probably down more; when I started at MMPC in August 2003, I weighed 318; then the staff dragged its feet and lost my insurance card and it was more than six months before they got my insurance through. By the time I got approved, I had to have all my bloodwork done again and it was nearly a year (and they wanted me to have another psych eval), so by then I had gained weight getting depressed waiting to be approved.
Anyway, I was super morbidly obese; I am inching toward merely overweight; just a few more pounds and I will be there! I was kicking myself over the fact that my fat percentage was high (you know, those readings on the Tanita scale), but Nancy wouldn't hear anything of it. She told me not to beat myself up over that. I know if my back and knees would feel better, I'd exercise more, but right now I can barely bend over.
Thanks to Dr. Foote for saving my life on June 29, 2004 (yes, I know the checkup is a little off; the schedulers screwed up last year so my checkup date is always going to be two months off). I'm off blood pressure meds and Zoloft. My blood pressure is 117/75, my cholesterol is normal (always was), so is my blood sugar (always was, but diabetes runs in my family). I can now walk around the mall (sometimes I need my cane because my knees are still bad; but there's no cartilage there, that's the curse of being over 50.)
I went down from a tight 30W or a tight 3X, almost a 4x at times into a size L and I almost think I can get into a size M top. Sometimes I can hardly believe that.
It's been a great two years.

Eileen!!!!! That is wonderful! It feels so good to be successful at weight loss. I am so happy for you. Especially about the health benefits and you look so nice now. Thank you for sharing your story. I am only 14mths out now, so it is nice to know we are still not done losing and remaking ourselves at any one particular point.

Yeah, too bad we missed each other. I had to get up at 4 a.m. in Chicago to drive back for my appointment at 10:30 ... was visiting my mom who had a tumor removed in her breast (she's fine, fortunately ... small tumor, no cancer in the nodes). Got home, took a shower (she doesn't have a working shower in her home) and drove over to MMPC. My only problem is I'm anemic ... or as Nancy the PA put it, I have not enough cars on the highway and very few cars in the parking garage.
Glad the EGD went well and hopefully you will have a date soon. Let me know if you're in town again and we can do lunch again.
