I had open RNY, no regrets here, there is a forum that you can go into that has people who have had that type of surgery. You can probably get good info there. Good luck with wichever you decide on! teri

I had the lap RNY and have been very happy with it. I'm thinking though, if I had it to do over again, I may opt to go with the micropouch....less chance of stretching. But all in all, very happy with the outcome! 125 lbs off originally....still have 105 off. I definately am glad I had the procedure done laproscopically....less invasive and the recovery was easy. No hernias or other complications. Theresa

i had laprascopic Roux En Y, had a very quick recovery and no complications. I'm confused about the micropouch, the need for open surgery and the revision rates i've heard people mention (heresay only, not reliable info) that go along with it. I'd like to see unbiased comparisons between the two at five and ten years out before i'd regret not having the micropouch but it does sound promising from what i've heard and seen.

Your insurance may dictate what kind of WLS you can have. Mine would not cover a lap band, but would cover RNY - either open or lap. I personally had Lap RNY. I only have five 'bullet holes' and once the incision healed enough, I was putting cocoa butter on them twice a day!!

Lap RYN, You may have to go to the main board to find out about the VSG. I haven't heard a lot of good though, but do your research. Best wishes.

I had Ruin What the Hell? (RNY). My boy, Oregon Jeff, had VSG with Pleatman. I had never seen anyone who had VSG before and I think Pleatman is the only one around doing it? I was full open and had a variation called a near total by-pass or micro pouch. No regrets. I would do it again in a heartbeat. kp

Hi Shawna, I am pre op like you and suggest you go to the other message boards on here for the different types of WLS. There are alot of great people willing to answer any questions you have, just like the ones who already have! Good luck!

Hi Shawna I had the duodenal switch with Dr. Kemmeter at S ectrum Blodgett in Grand Ra ids. A key is not working on my com uter, and I bet you can guess which one it is! I am only 16 days out, but am quite satisfied with the results thus far. There is an active DS board on this site, with many Michigan folks. Let me know if I can answer any further questions for you!
