Don't know what to think......?

I have a date for surgery for Aug. 29th...well today the lady that does the scheduling for the surgery called to tell me that my surgery has to be postponed until a week later. Urgh! I know that this happens sometimes, from reading some of the other posts on the board but, what I'm confused about is that the surgeon that I had my consultation with was the one that I thought would be doing my surgery. However, this is NOT the same surgeon that she said needed to postpone the surgery because he is going out of town.....I have never spoke this Dr. at all. Is this a typical scenario? Has this happened to anyone else(change in surgeons)? I'm supposed to speak with her tomorrow to get more of the story and find out the specifics, hopefully they won't have to change it...maybe it was a mix up...who knows! God know best so I'm going to trust Him. Wanting to keep my date, Kori

I've heard of this happening before. Where are you having it done? kp

I reread your post. You have a right to have your surgery done with the surgeon you spoke with. This is your life and you are putting it on the line to help yourself. You have rights and i think someone is stepping on your toes. There is no way That this should happen. Who you selected should be the one doing your surgery. It is unethical to change surgeons without your consent. kp

I found out today that the surgeon that was assisting my doctor was the one going out of town...but they didn't know he wasn't my surgeon until I called back to find out why they had to reschedule my surgery. But, I still think that you should be able to meet both of the surgeons that are gonna operate on you. He's gonna be in the room assisting I should have the opportunity to find out about him too. I didn't know he was assisting until today.....ummmmm, that just doesn't seem right. Kori:-(

I think it's referred to as ghost surgery. Make sure you now who is cutting you. Like what was said below he might be a great surgeon but you have a right to know. kp

There is no way a surgeon is going to touch me if i haven't researched and met them. Demand an explanation, and make sure you know what's going on. Can you really go through this and not even meet the surgeon til they roll you into the o.r? Hugs Linda

I didn demand an explanation but I think that they really need to work on the scheduling....they are really interfering with peoples lives when they just up and change a surgery date like that....life does still go on. They don't realize the amount of planning people go through to have this surgery...it's not a fly by night thing. Their explanation...to sum it up..... surgeons are fickle when it comes to schedules. Maybe they can afford to be, but I certainly can't. Kori

Kori, My surgery was rescheduled because the 'other' surgeon was going out of town. As it turned out, the other surgeon was assisting my surgeon in surgery. I was told that it is mandatory that two surgeons be in the operating room where I had my surgey done. Michelle
