Last night, about 11pm I had a horrible pain in my lower back side. I felt my Kidneys were failing me. It was so bad I was throwing up and shaking. Called 911 because I couldn't drive myself. In the ambulance they took my bp and it was 160/110!!!!! They gave me demoral to help the pain and it did a slight bit. In the ER, they gave me more demoral and an anti nauseau med - I was barfing all over the place, and got it all over my shirt. They did X-rays and a CT Skan and the ER doc came in and said it was a "kidney stone" about the size of a nickel to a quarter that was causing the problem/pain. One of the nurses said that having a kidney stone is more painful than having a child, though I don't know what that feels like, for all you Mom's out there, if this is true then wow, I applaud you for what you have endured. I was in the ER for about 5 hours and then they had to call me a ride home, and I have been trying to rest since I got home around 430am. I'm feeling much better today, almost as good as if nothing had happened, but they want me to contact a Urologist for follow up as well as my PCP. Let me tell you that this was the worse pain I've felt in a LONG time......one I hope never to endure again! Thanks for letting me share....have any of YOU had a kidney stone after WLS and how did you handle it? Stacey

I know how painful they can be. I have passed seven and hope to never do it again. If you haven't passed the stone yet, the pain could return if it starts moving again. So make sure you do your follow-up appointment. Take care, Fran

My goodness woman! How terrible. I've never experienced anything like that but I have had 2 babies! Ouch! My husband had that wonderful experience and I know he was dying! Make sure you follow through with your care so you can get it resolved. Hope you are feeling better. Take care, Carey

Thanks Fran, No, it hasn't passed yet. I did call the Urologist and have an appointment Thursday this week. Also my PCP knows. And my WLS Surgeon knows also. Stacey

Hi Stacey, so sorry that you are struggling with Kidney Stones. I have heard that it is VERY Painful. Do they have any idea what causes Kidney Stones in WLS Patients? That really scares me. I will be praying for you! Kathy

Do you know if it passed? I have had them twice and both times I had to go to Grand Rapids for treatment to get rid of them. Not fun at all...

Today at about 530pm -------------IT PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holy cow that thing is teeny weenie. How something so teeny could be so painful..........all I can say is WOW. I'm glad it's gone! I can only say that it is about the size of 1/5th of a baby pea. I don't know how else to size it. And it has a real jagged edge. So I feel better it's passed and hopefully that was the only one. Feeling much better tonight so far. Thanks for all the replies/posts to my other post... Much appreciated!!! Stacey
